looking for a cheap place to stay in manhattan for a week

i clicked on all the NY threads but some of the links seem dead and I did a search and couldn't really find anything, so I'm wondering what's a good place to crash for me and someone else, somewhere in manhattan for a week, that's preferably cheap and clean.

Depends how much your budget is and whether you are fussy about privacy. Someone from here suggested airbnb and it worked out well for me (be sure to go for the ones that are verified by airbnb and read the reviews), I also stayed at the Hosteling International on Amsterdam Ave which was really cheap and pretty good for the price, my brother has stayed at Jane Hotel which is pretty good as well.
