some of his Nike remade jackets are pretty good actually. But it's the kind of thing not everyone can appreciate. It's very different from most stuff out there. Which makes it even more appealing if you ask me. If you're talking bout originality then more than 3/4 of the stuff in the market wouldn't appeal to you since hardly anything out there is original!

The Nike jackets are in the thousands range...saw one at HUF going for $2400 and they're actually sold for even more at other places.

Margiela was one of the OG "Antwerp 6" from Belgium to hit the scene in the mid eighties and apprenticed to JP Gaultier--was one of the metadesigners to pioneer deconstructionism (outside of what the press thought at the time) and has been an underground cult force since 1989---he's not very mainstream and is known for keeping the press a bit at bay doing hardly any interviews save the ones that directly impact the serious inquiry of the fashion press regarding some of his collections. His thought and the creative direction for his house and the future of operating outside the boundaries of fashion and still being relevent is partly what brings him the following and status he has---In a word he's dope and is "one of the primarilly responsible" for a lot of the deconstructive trends we've seen over the last 6 years...

He cuts brilliantly and is without a doubt one of the most influential designers from a pure design perspective of the last part of the 20th century and the millenium...

New list for a new year.

No order as usual.

Label Under Construction

Lmaltieri

Carpe Diem <-- the holy trinity

Linea

Rick Owens

Carol Christian Poell <-- The Almighty Master

Issey Miyake

Ann Demeulemeester

Honorable Mentions:

Balenciaga <-- nice drop notch lapel this season.

Haute <-- Nice cords and other items, the beat up leather doesn't do it for me.

CDG H+ and Junya <-- Interesting design, but others seem to do it better. Designs becoming a little too commercial.

Wow nice to see some have my favorite labels in their lists :-)

here is my list (no particular order):

LMaltieri/Carpe Diem

Carol Christian Poell (unfortunatly often small "italian" cuts which don't always fit to regular sized western europeans ;-)

Martin Margiela (was by far my #1 but not sure about that anymore)

Comme des Garcons

Nike (i guess still the best is sports design)

Paul Harnden

Balenciaga (especialy the womans line...but mens also has some nice pieces)

Arcteryx (the 2nd best in sports designs)

Gold, you own any C diem/Lma pieces or CCP pieces?

--- Original message by raijin on Jan 2, 2005 08:05 PM

Yes i got some shirts/sweaters of Cdiem/Lma. The fabric and design are übercool i think... and i got a pair of his handmade shoes treated with somekind of acid i believe. (the packaging alone of the shoes is allready amazing) His Pants are ultra cool design... but not comfi and too expensive (for me). CCP i got 2pairs of trousers. Still looking for a shirt were he taped everything together instead of stitching...never found my size. Most CCp is too tiny for me... the pants are ok for me...

just found out about Henrik Vibskov.. do you know him? saw any pieces?
