Chain Stitch Machines

What does the industry typically use for chainstitching? I was told that they are relatively large machines, but which make/model can be considered a standard?

Union Special is usually cited as the classic.

no, they aren't that big, both singer, brother, and union special have them, they are all very goo brand, but most preffered Union, they run about 1200 on used ons, i'm not so sure on the price, but i think 1200 is about average, they come in the size of a regular sewing machine, so......i hope that helps, as for the model# you will have to check with your local machine supplier....

Thanks very much. A local hemming outfit bitched me out for asking if they could chainstitch my jeans. Then we got into an argument as to why it was so important for me to have chainstitching, and then she went on to further bitch that the machine she would have to use was the size of 2 tables and nobody in town would have one.
