Lee 101B

Recommended Posts

So, I was in the Lee shop in London today, talking do an employee downstairs who was showing me this new range of premium 101B repros. Didn't really understand what he was talking about, although he seemed very knowledgable, and he mentioned something about these new jeans that had been made by Edwin on the old Lee looms.

My understanding of it was that Lee are doing a similar thing to the LVC, where they are reproducing their old denim to very high standards. Does anyone know the difference between the different versions of the 101B? My main problem with the standard 101Bs is that the leg is too narrow. I really want a pair (like the saddle back long crotch thing) but with a wider leg opening. Is it the same as with Levis whereby the further back you go, the baggier the cut?

the lee repros have been around for quite some time, I imagine the store was showing you them because of the recent surge in popularity in selvage reproductions.

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with Lee's history which makes it a bit difficult to discern what i'm buying, since the Lee 101b alone has about 4-5 different models, to my count.

nonetheless, they are a really nice sanforized selvage denim and age remarkably well, and are also quite a bit cheaper than some of the LVC range.

These jeans were all £150. They were very very nice though - much sturdier looking than the current run of LVC. There was one cinchback, one cowboy one (back pockets were further apart) and one very baggy one with triple-stitching or something. Apparently it's made out of one single piece of denim rather than two. Anyway, it seems as though Lee are taking their heritage very seriously - even going so far as to reproduce exactly (with all the fade, wear and dirt marks) a pair of jeans and a jacket that they found down a mine shaft a few years ago. I'm a relative novice when it comes to Lee jeans, but I was much more impressed with what I saw than with the LVC range...
