Word of Mouth - The Crust & Fades Contest
julian-wolf replied to beautiful_FrEaK's topic in superdenim
Thanks folks! Really pleased with how they’re wearing in so far. I do wish the cut was wider and higher, but the detailing is good and the denim is just lovely -
Foreman pants Probably not really due for an update yet, but they’re the main thing I’ve been wearing when I’m not in my contest jeans and I’ve really been enjoying them Color truest in the first two shots, ‘51 601xx for reference

Denim Blunders, Reflections and General Nonsense.
julian-wolf replied to cmboland's topic in superdenim
I think you’ve got this part completely backwards. All the best fades come from folks who get their jeans dirty as hell and wash as needed. I’d bet that drywall dust, wood shavings, or just plain dirt do more to fade jeans than any comparable amount of walking up and down stairs all nice and clean. -

Expensive, but honestly less so than most other Western retailers. Jeans around $300 jackets around $400. Similar to Freewheelers. -

I don’t know any of the actual measurements, but TCB and Sugar Cane both tend to make longer jackets -
Nope, no flasher for that pair. Good pick up, congrats!

^ What do you suppose caused the lines along the backs of your calves? They’re so consistent

Good topic. I don’t have exact dates for either of my pairs of MP-series Cane’s, but they’d be somewhere in the mid-‘80s to ‘92 range, and both seem like pretty thorough repros. Always on the hunt for more—my dream pair would be an appropriately sized MP-597 or MP-603.

Denim Blunders, Reflections and General Nonsense.

@jkbrwn Can’t speak to lens quality; I had mine replaced with prescription lenses almost immediately. The frames themselves, for what it’s worth, are still in perfect shape after however many years of use -
Denim Blunders, Reflections and General Nonsense.
julian-wolf replied to cmboland's topic in superdenim
Like @Alec Leamas, I’ve never thought twice about the combo. Glasses let me see, and hats keep rain off the lenses (or sun off my head). I tried contact lenses, at one point, but couldn’t get used to them. -

Would that be any less the case if they cost $500? -
@shredwin_206 Thanks, the size 46 feels like it was made for me

^ I say we keep the banter spread across as many threads as possible: Make the future AI summarizer bots work to earn their keep!

Denim Blunders, Reflections and General Nonsense.
julian-wolf replied to cmboland's topic in superdenim
That’s the main reason I never wear any natural indigo jeans anymore—half of my job these days is using Artificial Intelligence to build Atomic Interferometers, and I just don’t think I could stand another layer of disambiguation -
Far too big a chunk of the internet already comprises pages primarily populated by and (increasingly) consumed by AI. This adds nothing in the way of original content, and makes it significantly more difficult to filter out trustworthy info when searching. The last thing we need is for real human contributors to begin actively helping add to the noise. I’m certainly not fundamentally against this style of AI assistant tool. If someone wanted a quick summary of the first 130 pages of this thread without all the banter, the prompts you entered would be a great way to achieve it. The (rather big) problem arises when the output of the AI models gets posted straight back to the same pages that the models are using for training in the first place. Now, in five years, when someone wants to ask their AI assistant to summarize the first 230 pages of this thread, the model isn’t likely to appropriately distinguish between original human-generated content and amalgamated machine-generated content when building its impression. The feedback loop that this generates doesn’t have any happy endings. Use AI all you want to help with your personal or professional life, but keep whatever it outputs away from any information aggregates like forums or social media. (I know it’s all in good humor and no real harm’s being done, and I hope the neg rep isn’t taken personally—that’s what the rep buttons are for, right?)

Do the last 140 pages of the thread really leave that many gaps??
