  1. ^ don’t patch the crotch of your jeans w/ an extra 18 oz. of fabric; they’ll be too stiff to ever drape right again Use a muslin or a light chambray or similar
  2. All the best wide jeans are M-series Cane’s
  3. Tilley hat / Ooe jacket / Merz tee / Hollows belt / new old Cane’s / Frank’s boots
  4. Didn’t know about the WW model—when did this come out?? Always wanted to try their jeans but was put off by the vanishingly low rises; am probably gonna have to give these a go How’s their sizing, in general? Charts would seem to say I should go for my usual size?
  5. Filson wool blankets are still a great option, modern clothing quality + prices aside
  6. Got lucky & came across an old stock classic Painted Desert shirt in my size—something I’d been after since needing to get rid of the wool blend version that shrunk up all wonky No decent photos, yet, but here’s a selfie from the market Fits perfect, really excited to put some wear into it
  7. Yeah, they chose a really bad model for those 3
  8. Also: really interested in finding out which facilities are producing the Alaska Sleeping Bag pieces
  9. The ‘46 is pretty seriously tempting, although at that price it’s a bit hard to swallow Meanwhile, on the other end of things, the blanket lined Type II seems like an absolute steal
  10. Yeah, glad to see a few of those long-locked 10+-year-old threads unpinned too—they were always just taking up space Thanks!
  11. They’ll still pucker up fine after the first few washes
  12. I’ve been really tempted by the vest version The jacket would be a lot more appealing to me if not for the pen pocket and the other small pocket right below it—I have trouble imagining what I’d ever use either of those for in practice
  13. Hmm they have some of Denime listed for 50% off too, plus those great TFH sneakers What’s the catch? Has anyone ordered from Myu before?
  14. Everything seems to be working well on my end. Thanks for putting in the time! One thing that I miss from before the update is the text affiliated w/ the "Next unread topic" button noting the name of whatever thread it links to.
  15. @ColonelAngus They’re really good. They’re not put together as cleanly as Frank’s or Nick’s, but they’re built like absolute tanks, and they’re wildly comfortable.
  16. Their construction seems plenty fine in terms of utility & durability, but their finishing and presentation make it really difficult to take them seriously. The first (and most significant) thing that comes to mind is that, while the main selling point of moccasin construction is the ability of the single-piece bottom to mold to the foot & cradle it over time, they fit theirs with thick cushioned insoles to remove any direct interfacing between the foot and the boot. At that point, they may as well be using standard top-first construction; the moccasin aspect seems to be purely aesthetic. That said, from what I’ve seen their non-moccasin shoes seem great, if aggressively priced. Good buddy has a pair of (made in Mexico, I think?) dress boots that he loves.
  17. The SC42966 (first pair that popped up on their page) is listed at $265 at Self Edge vs. ¥20k JDM Brogue has the 1947 601xx listed at $315 vs. ¥33k JDM Seems like an appreciably bigger markup for SC than for Freewheelers? Maybe a US vs. EU thing
  18. Smart maybe, but that's broadly considered a pretty shitty thing to do unless you're supporting the shop through other means… I think having a local shop to try things on at is well worth the markup, when you're figuring out whether a new brand (or a new style) works well for you. Sure, I'll usually transition to buying direct once I've figured out sizing and all that, but it's often cheaper to try on a shirt from a new brand and pay a 40% markup if it works or $0 if it doesn't than it is to pay full price plus shipping and take the hit on trying to resell it later if it doesn't work out—not to mention the whole hassle. That sort of service / convenience is money well spent, as far as I'm concerned.
  19. Still cheaper than Yuks at MSRP, and a lot nicer—but the latter tend to go on steep sale pretty consistently at the end of each “season”, so it’s a bit of a wash @MJF9 I think the sporting chukka in nicer leathers was around $400 or $450 before the recent bump?
  20. It's worth putting some thought into. Sure, they're less "fancy", and comparing the current prices to the historical prices makes it a bit hard to swallow, but I can guarantee that these are better shoes for everyday wear than some others that you've spent much more on. Even if they were priced the same as each other, I'd take Russell over Lofgren any day of the week, for example—and the latter are 50–100% more expensive at this point.
  21. Their asking prices have been out of control, since the recent change in ownership—no more so than, e.g., White's, though (not that that's a very good justification). Sizing should be the same as PNW boots: I wear a very comfortable 10.5D in White's, Frank's, Nick's, and Russell. That's down around 1/2 size from Brannock. Current pricing aside, Russell Mocs are really fantastic. When I don't need serious support, they're my definite go-tos. Most comfortable shoes I've worn.
  22. Hadn't heard of Brogue. They seem to carry a good selection of less-seen brands, and they're just an hour or so from me—looking forward, now, to checking them out next time I'm in the area but, meanwhile, that makes me realize: I didn't know that Freewheelers had any US stockists. Are there others that have flown under my radar? I'm surprised they don't run into issues with the union tags (but I guess they're not that visible, and don't show up in any sort of marketing)
