28s are 38cm at the beginning, 29 rougly 39.5cm, 27 37cm ... just fyi. Obviously they do vary slightly, also depending on the denim. 40cm is definitely relatively standard. My Mondays Off 28 are 38.5cm at the moment, waist dipped.

Why measure with the waist dipped? It doesn't mean anything because your true waist is not 'dipped'. It's arbitrary and leaves tons of room for error as well.. There is absolutely no reason to not align your goddamn jeans before you measure them /rant
