An all nighter ...

In L.A. I'm planning to go out with a friend for an all nighter... carless and on the cheap (transient status). I'm having trouble thinking up of ways not to end up at an expensive hotel/motel (gasp) room. Basically I need something to keep my attention that is non-hotel/motel/hostel.

In japan tokyo, they have friday night all-nighter movie screenings, cheap-ass karaoke or computer internet room places to stay in if you get stuck while the trains close. I'm basically getting into the same situation. I need a cheap way to spend the next few hours post-midnight (hopefully something fun that'd get my mind off of my ghetto situation) untill the trains run again back out of L.A. the next day.

So far I can only think of :

-(gay?) clubs that run till 5am (pass, and don't even really know if that exists)

-Dennys (also pass)

-Thai food places with live entertainment (thinking about it)

Is this possible in L.A.? I know its nigh close to it, but +rep to anyone that can actually step up to the challenge.

I understand this is a strange request, but I would like some suggestions.

(someone feel free to threadjack this to another city... once someone's given me some good ideas on this specific request)

unlike japan though i think this shit costs like $15 an hour per person, and it closes at 4am. unlike japanese establishments it's also alcohol-free...fucking weird.

Also do you think a japanese girl would find santee alley (fashion district) interesting? I doubt it haha, basically trying to think of a place to take her shopping without her going broke on monday also... guess I'm going to have to search threads for sales...
