Ok ok ok, I've read Romance of the Three Kingdoms and am pretty well versed in that part of chinese history because its fucking fun to read about.

Perhaps this is a return to form for Mr. Woo? I've been waiting for this film since I actually still played Three Kingdoms games and the sheer scale of the film and the cast look amazing.

Anyhow its call Red Cliff.

Basically takes place around the Battle of Chi Bi level with the boats.

Also its divided into two parts.

dont hold your breath. its got way too many boring unecessary parts. at least in the first one.

not that its not worth watching per se, but just dont get your hopes up. cause im pretty sure youll be bored for a decent portion of it.

No i understand it isn't all action. The whole dynasty warriors reference is just kind of a sardonic overtone.

big budget chinese/HK cinema is way too melodramatic and gay. They can turn even ancient war epics into a lame ballet.

I actually saw the movie, wasn't blown away. Then again, I went in expecting to see 300 with asian people. It's more acting and character driven, more of Genghis Khan the family man than Genghis Khan who raped all of Asia and fathered .02% of all males currently alive.

I guess it was a pretty good movie, if you're into those historical epics like Spartacus and the like.
