The Modern Racist Paradigm

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9142171923095749295&q=racial+paradigm&ei=AzV1SJPDKKP6qwPDgN2FCw

This is a well researched documentary that exposes the "White" Media's long-term agenda to standardize Caucasian people as the "social norm" for general society. I liked some of the clips in the doc, like the doll test, especially. Something to think about.

style Wars

Style Wars shows both the young artists struggling to express themselves through their art, and their points of view on the subject of graffiti, as well as the views of then New York City Mayor Ed Koch, one-armed graffiti writer Case/Kase 2, graffiti writer Skeme and his mother, graffiti "villain" Cap, now deceased graffiti writer Dondi, Seen and Shy 147, graffiti documentarian (and director of the film) Henry Chalfant, world renowned breakdancer Crazy Legs of Rock Steady Crew, police officers, art critics, subway maintenance workers, as well as several "people on the street".

Style Wars gives a remarkable view into the graffiti subculture (as well as urban New York City life in the 1980s), documents the embryonic stages of New York City Hip Hop, and shows that its members were a racially and ethnically diverse group of creative young artists.

cocaine cowboys

In the 1980s, ruthless Colombian cocaine barons invaded Miami with a brand of violence unseen in this country since Prohibition-era Chicago - and it put the city on the map. "Cocaine Cowboys" is the true story of how Miami became the drug, murder and cash capital of the United States, told by the people who made it all happen.

Using hidden cameras and never-before-seen footage, EARTHLINGS chronicles the day-to-day practices of the largest industries in the world, all of which rely entirely on animals for profit

Infamy

INFAMY is an intense journey into the dangerous lives and obsessed minds of six of America's most prolific graffiti artists. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Doug Pray ("Hype!" and "Scratch") who teamed up with writer, publisher, and graffiti guru Roger Gastman, the movie takes you deep into the world of street legends SABER,TOOMER, JASE, CLAW, EARSNOT, and ENEM.

With brutal honesty, humor and charisma, these artists reveal why they are willing to risk everything to spray paint their cities with tags, throwups, and full-color murals. You'll also meet Joe "THE GRAFFITI GUERRILLA" Connolly, a notorious "buffer" who paints out graffiti on his neighborhood's walls with a vengeance matched only by those who vandalized them. From the streets of the South Bronx to the solitude of a San Francisco tunnel, from high atop a Hollywood billboard to North Philadelphia for a lesson

The Bridge

People suffer largely unnoticed while the rest of the world goes about its business. This is a documentary exploration of the mythic beauty of the Golden Gate Bridge, the most popular suicide destination in the world, and those drawn by its call. Steel and his crew filmed the bridge during daylight hours from two separate locations for all of 2004, recording most of the two dozen deaths in that year (and preventing several others). They also taped interviews with friends, families and witnesses, who recount in sorrowful detail stories of struggles with depression, substance abuse and mental illness. Raises questions about suicide, mental illness and civic responsibility as well as the filmmaker's relationship to his fraught and complicated material.

Our Daily Bread

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5453061430615988934&q=our+daily+bread&ei=abB2SMjtF6WarQLv4JX7BA

Documentary which silently follows the day to day goings on in slaughterhouses. It's incredible watching how mechanistic the entire process is. I cringed when I saw the giant vacuum sucking up chickens. Not a hippie vegan, but it's beautifully shot.

I really enjoyed Brother's Keeper

Brother's Keeper

59-year-old Delbert Ward lives with his brothers Bill, Roscoe, and Lyman on a dairy farm near the upstate New York village of Munnville. Barely able to function on an adult level, the Ward brothers keep to themselves, ignored and shunned by their neighbors. When older brother Bill dies on June 5, 1990, the authorities determine that his death was not from natural causes. Suspected of a mercy killing, Delbert is charged with second degree murder. It gradually becomes apparent that the police coerced Delbert into signing a confession, whereupon his neighbors, who previously wanted nothing whatsoever to do with the man, begin lobbying passionately for his release. It's not that they believe that he's innocent, it's simply that he is one of "theirs."

^How is style wars not a documentary? What are you trying to say?

Sorry, bad wording. By "up there" I meant up on Google videos in its entirety. For some reason I was thinking it was put out by a bigger studio.

It's a great film, I've got the special edition DVD. The 'where are they now' part is awesome.

Peter Jennings - Ecstasy Rising

The rise of Ecstasy is a major event in drug history. If current trends continue, 1.8 million Americans will try Ecstasy for the first time in 2004; only marijuana will attract more new users. Overwhelming, positive word of mouth has made Ecstasy a nightmare for drug controllers. Night and Fog by Alain Resnais (1955)

Pretty well-known, but necessary viewing. An official documentary sanctioned by the French government to document the Nazi occupation of France, Night and Fog ended up becoming perhaps the single most powerful documentary ever created, showcasing not only the physical history but also the changing culture of rememberance of this dark period. Resnais' use of film excerpts of the Nazi occupation of towns as well as the rounding up of those persecuted during the Holocaust, combined with his powerful use of editing technique and stark self-shot footage of the concentration camps as they stood in 1955, provide the basis for a haunting and convention-bending look at the physical and social tranquility which seemed to come over the areas and cultures formerly terrorized by the Nazi reign.

Racist film blaming "evil whites" for everything bad that happened in the world. How does it differ from stupid 14/88/ns/wp/heil/hitler videos?

Surfing Soweto

Surfing' on top of speeding trains is the ultimate adrenaline experience for South Africa's disillusioned youth. It's illegal, dangerous and has already killed hundreds.

"I always wanted to be a stuntman", explains 'Bitch Nigga'. He doesn't just surf trains. He ducks bridges, does push ups and has come up with his own entertainment routine, performed from the top of a racing train. Most of the surfers come from broken homes. They spend their days drinking, smoking and teaching each other the latest train surfing techniques.

Gotta rep this youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/journeymanpictures

It's basically an independent outlet for investigative film making. All the stuff i've viewed on their so far has been pretty decent, especially since the documentary's are short (5-30 mins) and plentiful (3,000+) so their easily accessible and you can dip in and out.

Yes, I agree that doll test was quite surprising and interesting. I thought that white children would choose white doll, but I didn't expect black children to do the same.
well if you learned something from the Doc then it wasnt all that bad (didnt watch it). White man may not be the devil...but I think its important for whites to realize how history has f'd up the minds of alot of colored folk in this world.

you guys prolly seen these already, but i don't care. i'm always down for a good documentary, so let's keep this thread alive

China Blue

China Blue takes us inside a blue-jeans factory, where Jasmine and her friends are trying to survive a harsh working environment. But when the factory owner agrees to a deal with his Western client that forces his teenage workers to work around the clock, a confrontation becomes inevitable.

Shot clandestinely in China, under difficult conditions, this is a deep-access account of what both China and the international retail companies don’t want us to see – how the clothes we buy are actually made.

Jesus Camp

Jesus Camp follows several young children as they prepare to attend a summer camp where the kids will get their daily dose of evangelical Christianity. Becky Fischer works at the camp, which is named Kids on Fire. Through interviews with Fischer, the children, and others, Jesus Camp illustrates the unswerving belief of the faithful. A housewife and homeschooling mother tells her son that creationism has all the answers. Footage from inside the camp shows young children weeping and wailing as they promise to stop their sinning. Child after child is driven to tears. Juxtapose these scenes with clips from a more moderate Christian radio host (who is appalled by such tactics), and Jesus Camp seems to pose a clear question: are these children being brainwashed?

Seoul Train

With its riveting footage of a secretive "underground railroad," SEOUL TRAIN is the gripping documentary exposé into the life and death of North Koreans as they try to escape their homeland and China. SEOUL TRAIN also delves into the complex geopolitics behind this growing and potentially explosive humanitarian crisis. By combining vérité footage, personal stories and interviews with experts and government officials, SEOUL TRAIN depicts the flouting of international laws by major countries, the inaction and bureaucracy of the United Nations, and the heroics of activists that put themselves in harm's way to save the refugees.
