i must agree with darkanimal on this one. i've ventured in a handful of times and always left feeling like i just witnessed a scene from mad max...which is a good thing

Try "the Hole" on 29 2nd ave between 1st and 2nd st. But there's no sign, so be on the lookout for a just a wall with a door with grafitti all over it.

im pretty sure mars bar is on 3rd ave... defineteley not A. Its the perfect spot to go pick up some underage/overweight gothic chicks. If thats your thing then go for it--

Mars Bar is on 2nd ave and 1st street. It is a dive and gets very crowded. The Hole sadly does not exist anymore. The owner closed it a few months ago, remodled and it is now The Cock. The name should say the rest.

Other bars to check out if you are looking for dives in that area. Like said before, Max Fisch, B-sides is good, Darkroom (If they get their liscense back), Motor City, Cake Shop, Lit, Delancey. The key to bars in NY is knowing what nights to go where. The same place can be completely different on a Friday night compared to a Tuesday night. Happy Endings is the prime example of this.

Lit is one of the spots I'm glad that still has it. I was surprised after returning from a long vacation that Passerby already sucked. Or maybe I was there the wrong night?

Most of the dive bars don't have any special thing goin on. So Mars Bar, Max Fish, B-sides are pretty much the same all through the week. Most of the theme events happen on Fridays, at Lit, Happy Ending. I'd like to add Fridays at Scenic ,on Ave B and 2st. and another dive called Beauty Bar on East 14th street.
