Abercrombie...looks like high quality

I accidently stumbled into an AF store yesterday and began to wonder at their newly found passion in denim. Im quite a denim newbie so bear with me, but their jeans looked alot like the higher quality denim that Ive been seeing in high end stores. But I didnt look too closely as the smell of Fierce cologne choked me out of the store within minutes. So what is it about the new stuff AF is pumping out be "with it" thats different than say Nudie for example...that would make them so much cheaper?

8-10-06 I cant believe I ever had to ask a question like that...for shame.

A&F have always put out good denim in my book. The washes and distressing are often overdone (leading to the jeans wearing out faster than they should), but the fabric and construction have been fine in any I've looked at. I guess they stepped their game up recently with a premium selvage line but I haven't seen those yet.

ezra fitch has been counterfeited and over produced like a cheap whore. just check ebay. because it's selvage doesn't mean it's quality.

just curious - whats the deal with all the cheapo ezra fitch selvage jeans on ebay??

i'm guessing they're all fugazi - but are they really made with Japanese selvage?? if the fabric is the same as the real deal, then what's the catch? over-runs at the factory?

i'm tempted to check out a pair (seen some go for $20-something).

I used to work in an Abercrombie, and Ive been a "denim enthusiast" for about 2-3 years now. The denim used for A+F or Ezra jeans are both so far below what you can get for the same price elsewhere. I had a chance at getting 50% off Ezra jeans but they still are not worth $100. If youre looking to spend that much check out sale denim at higher end stores (if youre in NY theres tons of places) and otherwise check out online stores, or my personal favorite eBay. But you can trust that A+F denim is worth much less than what they sell it for.

Haha... funny..

I, too, worked at abercrombie as a "denim specialist"... from what i remember they have 6 lines:

Colden Baggy - Geared towards the non-fashion forward oaf

Porter Vintage Straight - More conservative straight cut, yet somehow loose

Saranac Boot - Just a boot cut... seems real baggy

Kilburn Lo-rise Boot - Supposed to fit tighter than the saranac and be lo-rise... fufills its promises but is still horribly loose

Baxter "Slim Boot" - supposed to give the same generous leg opening but be slim fitting, like premium jeans / diesel-esque... still retardedly loose

Ezras - any ezra series is a more premium denim but not worth the money by a long shot.

In my experience working there, the denim is thicker and generally more durable... however it makes backwards strides in men's fashion... simply blows.

Then again, im the pseudo-indie-skater-art fag type anyway.
