use sparingly though. i think good academic writing is about communicating your ideas effectively and elegantly. the vocabulary is only impressive if you've organised your thoughts well.

yep. public relations and media. but come start of semester ill be a business student so ill probably never write a sentence again.

probably depends on what youre studying. half the scholarly articles i had to read last year had sentences that went for full pages and read as if someone had just flicked through their Roget's picking out every synonym with more than 10 letters.
