This past weekend on Sunday September 23rd Brisbanites celebrated their first ever sneaker swap meet aka “The Sneaker Swap & Copâ€, Brisbane heads dressed in their Sunday best displayed their personal collections and also cleared their closets of any retired pairs and doubles. The day began nice and early at the “Brisbane Square†with a mad rush of boxes being unloaded at the nearest loading zones and commandeered bus stops, all the heads made quick introductions and then everyone jumped in gave each other a hand at unloading tables, hot sneakers and all the gear. Red bull girls arrived at the right moment and provided the much needed boost of energy to setup up the 20+ tables and displays. Everything including the DJ booth seemed to have gone up in a moment’s time with so many helping hands and was quickly ready for the anxious crowds hanging around trying to get a sneak peak.

A significant amount of heat was on display including the usual SBs, OGs, Js and some crazy limited PEs and a one off Brisbane Sneaker Swap & Cop Air Force 1 and matching shirts commemorating the day.

Being such a public space it quickly drew the attention of all the local sneaker heads and all passersby who showed genuine interest and had a good look around and contributed to the charity raffle to win prizes provided by Sneaker Freaker, Apartment, Fuel, Laced and S-LaB for the National Drought Foundation (good money was raised). Also we handed out prizes for best sneaker male and female and best display. Soon enough the cardboard boxes got flattened and the music drew out the breakers and they put on a damn good show.

Brisbane best stores which include S-LaB, Apartment (you guys seriously need to see the new store), Laced (Happy Birthday!!), Fuel and represented their own individual styles with their display tables. 1500 plus people rolled through what was an extremely important day in the Brisbane Streetwear and Sneaker scene and evidently the love is strong within our community and is ever growing and the future only holds bigger and better events.

Lastly it was a pleasure to organise this event with the help of Sneaker Freaker magazine, S-LaB, Laced, Fuel Clothing, Apartment, Red Bull, Brisbane Marketing and Zero Hour event management for getting together and supporting such an important cultural event for Brisbane City.

A special thank you to DJ Gavin Boyd for the trillest music all day, the Breaker Boys and Girls who put on a great show for the public and all the guys and girls who helped out with the Street Team, Online Support and all the help on the day and truly we couldn’t have done it without you guys.

Till next time

that looks like fun, though it's really open, seems scary easy for someone to run off with your goods and you not seein it. It's a really interesting place to have an event like that in, right in an open city square. Side note, beautful architecture, with the old Tresury Building in the background juxtaposed within the modern buildings in Brisbane Square, especially that colorful Denton tower --[no, I've never been there, just did some research and found out the names, i should go sometime though].

Anyway, saw some nice kicks there. Personal favorites: the New Balance 1400 Super Team 33's 'Orange Fishes', the Reebok Voltron Court Victory Pump 'Black Lion', the Air Jordan 5s in Army Olive/Solar Orange colorway, and the Milk Carton Blazers. Now what about those red bull girls? Second thought, forget it, they're prolly all anorexic toothpicks....
