Oh yeah I saw that one too. That was prett y good. I just heardd that he is not actually Thai but Cambodian right?

I also saw the one where he goes to Sydney to track down some Thai-Australian elephant smugglers...amd they end up throwing a baby elephant through a plate glass window.

Respect.

Hope that was a stunt double...

These aren't high-action movies. More buddhist and meditative really but I highly reccomend them.

Last Life in the Universe. If Lost in Translation was a sweet candy, this movie would be the bitter pill. Plus Christopher Doyle directed cinematography. I like almost 90% of his movies, he has a great eye for composition and I love how his colors are so damn emotion-laden. I could print out a beautiful poster from any scene in this movie.

Syndromes of a Century. A meditative masterpiece (to me). I can't wait to see more of Apichatpong Weerasethakul's movies.

I highly reccomend you watch both these movies on as big a screen as you can. The second one is not on DVD yet I think...

fully agreed with masuerte, Last Life in the Universe is a beautiful film. cant say enough of why i like this movie... like masuerte said, every scene is beautifully shot by Christopher Doyle, like art in motion. its slower paced but everything is perfectly put together... there are themes of loneliness, death, longing, and the supernatural, so if you're a fan of haruki murakami's stories, this will be right up your alley.

Dammit guys, I keep having these moments where I can see superfuture as living in one city, we could all form little clubs and groups like for this instance an existentialist film and book club.

i should add that Last Life in the Universe might not be for everyone because of the slower pace, but if you like art films, and appreciate characters/relationships in a film more than the action or events, then you're more likely to enjoy LLitU. but people who arent used to it might find it boring and non-engaging.

i heard "Monrak Transistor" is really good, its also directed by Pen-Ek Ratanaruang (Last Life in the Universe), still haven't seen it though but heard good things. Pen-ek's "6ixty-nin9" was not bad but not that great, maybe my expectations were elsewhere after viewing Last Life.

Ive got Last LIfe in the Universe, but unfortunately not with English subtitles (I live in Japan and my Japanese is nowhere near up to scanning the subtitles...) so havent seen it yet.

Same prob with "Citizen Dog" which looks awwwwwesommme. Its by the same director as "Tears of the Black Tiger".

Anyone else FRICKIN LOVE that movie?????

And where do you get this stuff?? Im finding it really hard to get my hands on a lot of Thai titles. Even when I was in Thailand!! Are there any good sites - yesasia handle Thai stuff?

Citizen Dog was really great (english subbed HK DVD came out a while back). Reminded me a little of Amelie at times (but better).

Thought Last Life In The Universe was a little so-so, as was Invisible Waves.

Saw a good one a few years back called Midnight, My Love (even though it was unsubtitled).
