clothing for summer-to-fall transition

getting ready for work this morning, it occured to me that i'm confused over what to wear during this period. what are people wearing? it's still too warm (at least in l.a.) for fall colors, sweaters and cords. curious to know, especially from los angeles people.

it's a rule of thumb, no white after labor day, no grey floral slacks before october.
