quality of stitching

Okay, I have these Dope + Drakkar jeans that are pretty much a 501xx Japanese repro type denim. I bought them a little over a year ago in a 1 wash state, lived in them for like 8 months, and now I wear them like once or twice a week. Washed them maybe 4-5 times, warm or cold water, hang dried.

Question: should the stitching be falling apart already? The outer seam split already around the pocket area, and I had it repaired. Now the double chain stitching in the crotch area has worn away and there is a 1" hole now because of it.

More questions: Is this an attempt at replicating how the stitching/thread was with Levis made 50 years ago? Or, is this not intentional, and just an inferior thread?

I feel like it was intentional to have the stitching wear away like it did on this particular denim. It looks cool at the hem and pockets, but it kind of sucks that the more essential points of the pants are falling apart after 1 year. Just kind of a pain to have to regularly repair them, sort of like owning an old car.

Also, on a related note: Is there any way to tell the quality of stitching/thread when buying a pair of jeans?
