Upcoming Clothing/Need help

Hello,

Well i am planning to start a clothing line or company whichever you would like to call it. I am posting to get feedback and information. I want to get this information before spending a couple hundred on machines and designers.

Basically i need to know what would be the best way to go about this? This question would be more geared toward people who have their own clothing already.

The next thing is what designs would you like to see and buy and that you think many people would. My vision if you would like to call it that is to have clothing that a wide group of people can buy.

This is one name i was thinking of its not set in stone so im open to any othrs. Its pronouncd A is in okay...and thn la...atlast thats what i gathred from the dictionary.

é·clat Audio pronunciation of eclat ( P ) Pronunciation Key (-klä, klä)

n.

1. Great brilliance, as of performance or achievement.

2. Conspicuous success.

3. Great acclamation or applause.

4. Archaic. Notoriety; scandal.

Thank you for reading this and anything you can say to help is appreciated.

I have clothes and they are my own, so I can surely help ;-)

Maybe you should try to setup the exact thing you want with the company first, and never try to just follow current trends, first of all you would recieve a thousand andswers and second, why buy something everybody else is doing?

The name is good, but it has to mean something other than a few lines of good thing. If you really feel eclat, that is good, but otherwise pick something personal.

You should try to learn as much as you can about the clothing industry before starting your own.

Denim Fanatismé.

The Arc - Hitting the selvage from August 1st 2005.

PASHION - The pasion for fashion. Denmark - soon.

I understand where your coming from. Basically find out what i want my company to be about first and do that. I am doing that but i think the main problem is like i stated earlier i want to be able to sell to a large group thats why i am getting different types of designers.

The name i had stumbled upon in the dictionary before thinking of a clothing company and for some reason i liked it. Considering a buddy of mine almost made a clothing company named spoon i think my name defintetly has somewhat meaning. But im still looking for more names.

So far i am trying to learn as much as i can and hopefully i can move forward with this idea.

Listen,

Planning some dream business is fun and all that, but you should really look into the business you're trying to get into. I would recommend buying a japanese made home silkscreening kit, and going nuts on blanks. Because you are only going waste a ton of money massageing your ego by starting a business in a cut- throat industry, that you know little about, and where even huge companies lose hundreds of thousands before getting going.

I'm not trying rain on your parade that hard or anything, but you've got to look at the mountain your trying to climb, it's everest size. Get a job in apparel, or go to art school, you'll learn much more that way and spend way less than just jumping in.

"go to art school, you'll learn much more that way and spend way less than just jumping in"

can you or anyone here share some wisdom you've learned in art school? for instance, besides teaching you how to sew and make the clothing...what else do you learn?
