Taking my denim to the next level (45rpm bc4000, 5EP, APC, Oki-Ni's Duffer Of St. George)

Hi, I'm new to the board and amazed at the vast knowledge and great denim information available here.

I currently wear mostly Helmut Lang and Rogan. I recently picked up a pair of PRPS (the wrinkled ones, purple line) that I like a lot and it has gotten me interested in pursuing some high end lesser known jean labels for my next purchases. I've got some serious money burning a hole in my pocket right now and I could sure use some help in picking my next pockets.

I am considering a pair of 45rpm, the bc4000. Expensive, but I've heard nothing but rave reviews and I'm willing to spend if they really are a level above the PRPS I currently own. I understand that the bc4000s come in two washes--indigo and black. Is the black really jet black or a really darkish blue? And how light is the indigo? Also, does anyone know if any stores in Los Angeles carry them? I live in L.A. and could decide for myself if I could try a pair on. If not, it would be a pricey leap of faith to order them via the store in NY.

I also want to try getting into the raw/unwashed selvage jeans but don't have a lot of experience wit them. I will proably try to get myself to American Rag to try on a pair of the 5EPs, but I am curious to know how people think they stack up against APC. Also, I like the look of the Duffer Of St. George jeans on Oki-Ni as a kind of dark horse pick and I'd love to hear from anyone who has tried them.

In general, I like minimalist appearance. Some cool stitching or subtle details is appreciated, but I generally don't like a lot of bling going on all over my back pockets, etc.

Any thoughts, pointers, and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and I'll be sure to post reviews once I've taken the plunge.
