jean button help

snaptrap

Recommended Posts

Hey all -

One of my crotch buttons snapped in half! just sorta ripped apart. its one of those (i think standard on any button fly jeans) buttons that they probably had to stitcha and then snap the two sides together (i think). Any ideas on where I can get another and how they are stiched into the fabric? it doesnt look straight forward. thanks for any help.

the buttons aren't actually stitched together, they're riveted together. you'll need to find a new jeans button, a good tailor or sewing shop will have one. i used a hammer long ago to pound the top onto the base of the button, but there may be more civilzed ways to treat your jeans.

so - no stitching involved? presumably, i could get this button and do it myself without needles, thread?

the bottom half of mine is still attached to the jeans - maybe cuz the top attaching bit is all mangled and isnt coming out of the denim peacefully - ive been using pliers, butter knives...civilized behavior went out the window hours ago...

thanks again.

there're no threads nor needle involved. if you're handy, it's a piece of cake. the bottom part of the destroyed button will have to be removed, and it's a bitch of a process. i don't remember the exact process, but i'm sure it involved a hammer, pliers, screw drivers and various expletives. a good tailor will know a better way, i'd leave it to the professionals if the jeans are precious to you. shouldn't cost more than a few bucks.

the remainder of the button can be clipped off with wire cutters...

the actual button, like others said, consists of 2 pieces -- a "tack" and a top button.. you push the tack through the fabric, set the button on the top of the tack, and hammer the 2 pieces together

you can purchase a plain button and tack from this site.. just scroll down to where it says tack buttons

id purchase a few and practice on some scrap material so you dont mess up a pair...
