Shrinking/Tailoring

Hello all,

Well just received a few polos (pique) as a late christmas gift and what do you know? they were a size too large. I was wondering if it was better to try to shrink em or to get them tailored. If its shrinking how should I go about doing it/how much will I be able to shrink it? Thanks

this has been asked a million times.. but then again the search doesn't seem to function properly at the moment.

try shrinking them first as this is obviously easier. assuming they're cotton, soak the shirts in hot water and throw them in the dryer. this should shrink them depending on the fabric. its likely to take more away from the length though.

altering is easy too, if you have a sewing machine you can probably do it yourself, otherwise just take it to a tailor. tapering the sides in is a quick procedure and shouldn't cost more than like $20 for a couple of shirts.

if you have recommendations for your area you might as well use those, but I dont see why you couldn't use just any one. I've used a couple of ones and both have done great work.

if you look in the yellow pages (depending where you are) some of the ads or listings might even specify what they do (actual making of clothes, alterations) but I'm sure any tailor can do minor things like this.

Hi,

I saw you had posted a guide to tailoring before but the pics are outdated. Do you think if you find the time you can post a new one with how to tailor longsleeve button up shirts? Or if you can offer any advice in this regard it would be appreciated.

Thanks!
