HELP! regarding Grad school apps

Hi all

i am currently preparing/finalising my grad school apps, and theres a question in the application that asks whether u r applying to other grad schools?

so whats the deal on this, do u just answer it honestly? i mean does it affect their decision on admission?

any comments would be great!

That is a good question.

From all of the grad school events I have been to, they have stressed that they know when people are bullshitting and would rather you were honest. I mean, if you are applying to Wharton, they know you are probably also applying to HBS, Northwestern, etc. so you might as well say it. It can't hurt you to broaden your chances of getting into a good school by applying for several and they know that. What I would not do is list any more than 2-3 schools (if say, you were actually applying to 10), so that you seem confident that you will get into one of the few you are applying to.

I agree with england...the only thing I might add is to put your best schools on the "truncated" list of schools you're applying to. That way, each school won't see a list of crappy schools and think, "well, he'll get in there, but definitely not here."

yea, i truncated my list down to 2-3 other competing universities
