red wing 875 / general leather care

i picked up a pair of red wing 875s a month or so ago and wanted to hear some recommendations for oil or general protection. the shoe repair place below my work said to use lexol, but was wondering if there was anything that would darken the leather a little, but still allow the natural color to develop.

I just use the red wing brand mink oil.

I get these black marks on them and I can't get them off.

the black marks are from where the hems of your raw denims are coming in contact with the leather. keep in mind these are WORK BOOTS and not porcelain dolls.

I've seen these recently on the shoes that look better with age thread.

You can try gum eraser on them. It works on light indigo staining. I've found rubbing them with the eraser and then brushing off the leather helps. But some staining is unavoidable. Also, use tape on the inside of your jeans and they won't be rub off on your shoes.

Hmm, I have not got any staining on my RWs, but still a tonne on other shoes. Maybe I avoid it with frequent polish/care?

white and red in perticular?

I've been looking at a pair of these. Are they generally sized down a 1/2 size? I've heard they adjust sizing for work (thick) socks?
