I just bought a pair of the Starbury Crossovers - basically Air Force One copies. My verdict: really pretty sweet for $9. Here's a blog entry that collects some news stories and some bloggy reactions to Marbury's shoe line - http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/2006/08/can_the_starbur.html

Other than the the logos, the Crossovers and the AF1s look pretty similar - all the way down to the heel line. Depending on whether or not you believe Nike is taking the extra $70 as profit, they may even be constructed identically. I kind of doubt that, though - the heel line was already peeling when I took them out of the box, and the "Starbury" stitching on the right ankle looks pretty awful.

I do feel sorta hip for wearing cheap shoes advertised as cheap shoes though. I'm looking forward to beating them up a little and wearing some of the newness off.

They're not limited. It's just that the overwhelming success of the shoes in rural areas have meant huge outages of these sneakers. It's been reported that kids will queue at their local mall to pick up a pair--in a way, it's a huge step forward in being accesible to kids who can't afford a brand name lifestyle that's been overadvertised to them over the media.
