Rigid 501's

Just bought the Levi's 1947 deadstock 501's (LVC repro), and am planning to wear them rigid. Will the waist stretch a bit if worn without washing? If so, appx how much?

Of course.... Like any jean. Wear them like 4/5 (couple weeks if possible) days in a row & they will stretch as much as your body needs them to...

Yes they will! The indigo will get all over everything. You will have blue hands and legs. This is not a bad thing though. I'm excited because I am getting a pair of deadstock jeans on friday and I haven't worn a pair of deadstock indigo jeans for like 2.5 years! aaaah, a blank canvas!

to test the non-colorfastness, take a white paper towell and wet it with warm water, and give your jeans one little wipe, it will be blue.

Does the sanforisation process stabilize the indigo and keep it from bleeding too much, in addition to minimizing shrinking?

No, sanforising has little effect on the bleeding of indigo.

Maybe you are looking to describe the mercerising process. Some denims are mercerised after woven (as opposed to mercerised threads), whilst not exactly stabilising the indigo (indigo by nature is very unstable), this process does change the colour somewhat.

From what I gather, they are no longer being made as the factory that made them in San Fransisco was shut down. Most members here get them deadstock off of eBay or Aero.
