  1. I bought this one at the Yankees store in South Street Seaport (NYC) in 1999, purely for the name on the back.
  2. These 2 I’ve had since 1990. I did some work for a friend (well, more a friend of a friend) who used to own the brand and shop Boxfresh and now owns Boxpark and was paid in clothing he was dealing in. The no alla violenza ones were produced for the 1990 World Cup in Italy. I used to have another in grey and another of the basketball ones in red until my sister stole them. He also gave me a coach jacket, some Soffe sweatshorts and a Burro t-shirt (they shared an industrial unit in Lewisham).
  3. The top one I bought in a little shop in Brick Lane in 1999. The second, I think in Greenwich in the very early 2000s.
  4. Yep. He also rapped about his Gucci watch!
  5. Can’t beat a bit of whataboutery, it’s like criticising Guardian readers for supporting the Transatlantic slave trade! Anyway… Run DMC’s ‘My adidas’ (1985) is too obvious but let’s see if you can guess this song from 1987 from the lyrics below (the rapper has a terrible lisp, so best read rather than listened to 😬) ”They call me Puma, by the clothes that I wear, on my feet, on my body, on my head, everywhere”
  6. I’m a bit older than 00, so I wasn’t even aware of Nike until my early teenage years. The holy grails of my formative years were always adidas and Puma - and for me, if I’m looking at a classic pair of trainers for knocking about in, it will always be those, particularly the ‘terrace’ style, although I don’t really like that term.
  7. But if they’re repros of golden era Nike, then surely they’re the sportswear equivalent of LVC and I don’t think you’re that keen on them?
  8. Out of all the Nike trainers around, those 70s/80s running shoes are by far the best, but like smoothsailor, for some reason it’s not a brand I’d ever buy. Last pair of Nike I bought for myself must have been 25-30 years ago!
  9. Here’s a list of my vintage repros (from 2005 and earlier). As most are stored away, I’ll dig them out and add some photos when I can, some are already on other threads. In chronological order of production date (where known): Levi’s Japan 503 BSXX: 1991 Levi’s Japan 503 B: 1994 Go West 0502 DI: early-mid 1990s, probably 1994 Denime (unknown hybrid 50s/60s model with red selvedge): pre-1998 LVC 1944: 1999 Sugar Cane M41326: 2000 Edwin Waynesville: 2005 Denime Tokyo: unknown, possibly 2005 Fob Factory F198: unknown, but the details on these make me think pre-2006 Sugar Cane Okinawa: unknown, but they have the remains of a red tag that has been removed. Could be pre-2006?
  10. ^ Did you remember to remove the hanger when you put it on? 😆
  11. Importantly, was the ball spherical or did it have pointy ends? The term ‘soccer’ comes from Oxford-er slang, which was prevalent at Oxford University from about 1875, and is thought to have been borrowed from the slang of Rugby School. Initially spelt ‘asoccer’ (a shortening of ‘association’), it was later reduced to the modern spelling. This form of slang also gave rise to ‘rugger’ for rugby football and the now-archaic ‘footer’ that was also a name for association football. The word ‘soccer’ arrived at its current form in 1895 and was first recorded in 1889 in the earlier form of socca. I’m not sure about ‘fitba’ though… Still, if you’re wearing WoM jeans, then surely its calcio?
  12. ^ This is proof that you can be both a Winner and a Loser at the same time 😆
  13. Nice find @yung_flynn, do they have a number stamped on the back of the top button?
  14. You may have more luck finding a longer Type 2 than Type 1 as there are more modern cuts available in that style.
  15. Sometimes LVC limited edition jeans are limited to 501 pairs for obvious reasons. I’ve seen them limited to 300 too. Perhaps they think 201 (which matches the model) is too low, so they’ve come up with an arbitrary number or added the 501 to the 300 and rounded it down!
  16. One wash 0106 measurements (BiG style!) for anyone interested (W31/L34): Waist: 32” FR: 12” BR: 16” Thigh (at crotch): 13” Hem: 8.5” Inseam: 32.75”
  17. Are those Valencia St 201s likely to be the ‘misnamed’ 37 501s or actual 20s 201 repros?
  18. I’m not sure, I think that is more of a carrot-shaped cut
  19. I used to have Suntour friction thumbshifters on my Muddy Fox Courier back in 1987! I eventually replaced them with Shimano clickshifters.
  20. My old, worn 1101s from 2017 and new (to me) one-wash 0106s (produced in 2018 but recently acquired). Both size 31 and 13.7oz denim. The 1101s have had 2 rounds of crotch repairs, the arcs have completely disintegrated and they’re now relegated to dog walking duties - note the short welly fades on the lower legs. They’re probably the slimmest fitting jeans I’ve worn in years. The 0106s aren’t seen that often, they’re supposed to be a wider cut than the 0105s but they seem pretty similar all round to me, other than the offset rear belt loop and perhaps wider back pockets. I have a pair of raw 0105XX too with arcs and tabs, so I’ll try to give them a proper comparison. The 0106s will need a little off the length.
  21. I’m in a generous mood so let’s extend the vintage invitation to anything over 20 years old. Post your repro pairs that date up to 2005!
