  1. (and how old you are…!)
  2. Some good entries from the UK contingent, unlike Eurovision (apparently…). Not today, but yesterday I had to collect a print I bought from the artist’s studio in Woolwich, so I travelled by Underground & Elizabeth line with my trusty pooch and then took a walk alongside old Father Thames. Various photos of the old Royal Arsenal and environs, where armaments and munitions were made. The site had its origins in the 17th century and finally closed in 1994. Most of it was built in the 19th century. Anyway, plenty of cannons, etc and some Antony Gormley-esque sculptures. There’s also the Woolwich Ferry and the foot tunnel (opened in 1912) under the river for transport buffs. Some photos of the Tate & Lyle sugar mills at Silvertown, Thames flood barrier and offices at Canary Wharf. Plenty of modern, soulless high-rise residential developments too, which I ignored. Finally, the print of Circus Liquor in North Hollywood on 9mm birch ply covered in clear resin, by Gerry Buxton.
  3. ^ I don’t know what he’s talking about…
  4. I think you’re saying that historically, Levi’s (and not LVC) started using the red tab in 1936/37 and perhaps the Type I was released before then so wouldn’t have had a red tab? I’d need to check my books, which I don’t have to hand, so probably an expert like @Dr_Heech can confirm. Furthermore, even if this is the case, I think you’re asking if LVC would have made a Type I repro without a red tab to reflect this period. I don’t know but I’d guess not. More importantly, as you managed to find 3 US-made Cone Type IIs for an excellent price, why on earth would you want a Turkish made LVC Type I without a tab?!
  5. I think I posted it in the wrong thread, it’s my first WAYWT.
  6. I still have a BNWT pair of SD-001s from 2010. They’re supposed to be the left hand twill version of the 101 in a 14oz denim. My pair are a size smaller than my 101s but have a higher rise and roomier top block, which is very welcome.
  7. Do you work for TfL @Toegun?
  8. They go well with your L and R socks
  9. Tennis shoes were big in the early 80s. I had adidas Wimbledon and Puma G Vilas back then. Get yourself some Forest Hills if your inner magpie can’t resist the glinting gold, these were the ultimate…
  10. Like many other boys of my generation and class, I had 2 pairs of Gola trainers in primary school in the late 1970s (the Jet and Aztec models I think), along with offerings from other contemporary British brands at the time - Power, Lightning and Mitre. I also had adidas and Puma, the latter being my favourites. I’ve not worn Gola (or any of those other 3 British brands mentioned) since. Gola weren’t considered especially bad by any means back then but they wouldn’t be on the top of your wish list either, they were functional enough for the rigours of playing football in the school playground and beyond and certainly had bragging rights over the dreaded black plimsoll. I recall Gola having a bit of a revival in the 90s, possibly linked to the whole BritPop movement but I never took much interest. I think they may also have been favoured by a few Mods since. I can understand the appeal of wearing a slightly obscure foreign brand as it probably has totally different connotations to people from other countries. It can have an air of selective, discerning taste and cool rather than all the memories associated with it by those who had no choice at the time. I still wouldn’t buy them though…
  11. The first 2 I’ve had since 1990. The second 2 are somewhere between 20-25 years old. Sorry for the creases!
  12. Here’s a better view of the Mercury parked on my street. The scratches on the door are from it being parked in a front garden that was far too narrow, hence why it’s now on the road.
  13. I’d take them to a tailor/repair place and have them patched on the inside and zig-zag sewn over the rip (from the inside or outside). If you have a sewing machine (I don’t), you can do it yourself easily enough.
  14. You should cut down the sleeves and then snip lots of long vertical cuts along the length of the sleeves to give a streamer effect (think of the curtains outside betting shop doors in the 1970s if you’re old enough).
  15. Spinal Tap jackets only go up to 11.
  16. Time to start a new thread for TCB rather than leave it in the "Unknown Japanese Brands" one as it's very well known now. Post all your TCB non-competition stuff here.
