I am a student at the University of California, Davis. I am interested in a career in fashion forecasting and trend analyzing. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this. I have done research and found a couple prospects:

Esp Trendlab (http://www.esptrendlab.com/1_about.html), Jenkins UK (http://www.jenkins-reports.com/) and nelly rodi agency paris.

If anyone has any knowledge on this topic and would like to further educate me on what I need to know to get a job like this, please reply.

I really want to know the in's and out's of this aspect of the business so I can have an edge in getting an internship with these listed propects above.

Tell me what I need to do to prepare myself for the interview and any contacts to agencies. Thanks.

beyond just starting your own blog and trying to build a rep, I think the focus should probably be on either branding/marketing or journalism. They're quite different IMHO.

Do you want to be the person who infiltrates the subcultures and reports back to the powers that be or the person who is the subculture and have them pay you to do what you already do. Pick our poison.

actually i met some one like that before, he job is to help compnay steer into the direction of the ideal market. when i spoke to him he was helping a beer company to reach a broader base of consumer.

ptretty much if you have the balls, you could walk into any company and tell them you are a consultant and if they need your service what not, but than again, if thats your route yo have to be able to bring it to the table.

or you could some what study your way into be a trend forcaster, there is several agency that does trend predition, WGSN, Here And There, pantone....etc etc etc.

coming up at the end of this month there is a market week going on down at the california mart. over there you could find publication on trend predictio, perhaps you could come down and see for your self.

to me personaly, trend prediction comes within, and you are pretty much a self made man, so good luck.

hi,

i am also interested in working in fashion forecasting. i am currently interning at esp trendlab in new york. i think that if you would like to get your foot in the door an internship at a reputable forecasting firm is the first step. i think that another good firm, peclers, has an office in cali (la?) but look into it
