Leather / vintage shopping, Buenos Aires

Hey duders,

In a few weeks, I will be travelling around South America for a bit and Buenos Aires is my first stop. I've heard that Argentina has a huge leather industry and I need me a new leather jacket. And possibly shoes. And belts.

Anyway. We'll be staying in Palermo. Does anyone know where one would find great vintage stores in BA? Or leather stores in general?

i say dont believe the hype on the leather, the shit in not great quality. i had a jacket done at this one spot, sylvia and marios, that quite a few people recommended (not on this forum i mean in general). I went there and told them what i wanted, basically a custom cause it was not like anything they had on their standard list. the girl said that it was not a problem, so i got measured and she said i would have it it 48 hours.

im back in 2 days and they completely changed my jacket to one of their standard designs with only a minor change saying that is what i told them to do. i tried it on and it was huge, it was too big everywhere. they made you put down a 50% deposit which i would have lost if i canceled the order so i did keep it, i did make them take it in the arms and the back, but yeah fucking sucked.

i say save your money and just enjoy the food, and malbec wine. argentine cuisine is easily some of my favorite food, but im a big carnivore so your millage may vary

I'm not first and foremost looking for custom made stuff, I'd prefer vintage. Any ideas?

If you're looking specifically for vintage, there's two places I know of: Galería Quinta Avenida (located at 1270 Avenida Santa Fe), and Galeria Bond Street. Both arcades have plenty of shops, and if it's a vintage leather jacket you want, that's probably your best bet. Outside of that, if you're staying in Palermo, there's probably some options nearby.

Nah, Quinta Avenida is in Retiro, and Bond Street is in Barrio Norte I think. Neither within walking distance, but not too far.
