what constitutes 'original' in streetwear?

I'm noticing a lot of negativity by several people here (including myself on occasion) and i'm wondering what you consider original in streetwear to justify your criticisms of certain brands. A lot of companies are certainly guilty of stealing their images from everyday pop culture icons but does this make them original? If so, how does their stuff separate them from everyone else? and if these companies aren't very original then why do people continue to buy their product? Are you buying their product because of the name (and a vain attempt at streetwear elitism) or do you genuinely like that product?

there are very few companies out there whom I feel are absolutely original in terms of graphics and ideas. Trends emerge, everyone copies them and then they fade away. I do however appreciate a good graphic and a well made garment. I also appreciate anyone that has the balls to put themselves out there despite the criticism. people are like sheep, once something becomes popular they start following it, so anyone that sticks to their guns and make tees or whatever for the sheer fun of doing it, I applaude you.

this thread is more of an addendum to the 'opinions on streetwear' thread but I'd like to hear some objective opinions rather than a bunch of mudslinging.

if they move, kill 'em.

Havent read the other post you mentioned at the time of writing this as Im to lazy!! But my general feeling is that I dont think much constitues as 'original' these days.... Sadly things seem to be way too much about stealing or reappropriating (whatever).. Its like Kareoke time in the streetwear world!!! Did I spell that right?? icon_smile_tongue.gif

I think that MindTrix new line is totally original and different from the norm.

I just got back from MAGIC and POOL in Vegas and everything is looking the same.

MindTrix stands apart from the pack, we have good solid designs and a very well made product.

We will be showing this weekend at Visual Graffiti and Thread here in San Diego Sept. 11th and 12th.

During ASR.

Come check us out if your in town.
