Thinking about modifying Levis 501 premium

I was considering purchasing a pair or Levi's 501 premium (the kind with the patches on them) and removing the patches. I like the way the fake hige and the color look but don't like the patches at all. The patches seem to be glued and sewn. Anyone have any experience/thoughts on this? Is there any possibility of doing this without leaving any residue? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
