are velvet jackets cool or do they come too close to GOTHBOY?

i have this velvet blazer i got a few years ago from Zara and every time i wear it i get compliments. but i don't think it's something you can wear a lot. and maybe the other poeple who don't give me compliments are thinking, "douchebag."

it looks like this (please excuse my Seven jeans in the picture, this was years ago pre-pre-pre-pre-denimz)

i even wore it to Christmas Eve that same year, when my friend decided to wear another velvet blazer

The only people I see walking around in velvet jackets are overstuffed beef and cheeseball toolbox combos who try to look like johnny thunders and go for "that" angle.

In my city of Baltimore, our resident bimbos who try to pull this kind of malarky off are a stupid clique of butt-heads who just started this laughable shit called "big as shit tuesdays." The sad part is that everyone eats it up. They walk around in their clueless concepts of "60's-ish 70's-ish" garb. It's very ill-conceived and reminds me of some kind of fantasy roleplaying club.

If velvet was ever cool, creeps like this killed it:

big as shit tuesdays!!!

I'm sure your city has this. I'm sure they wear velvet jackets sometimes. Please don't be this.
