hotels in brasilia?

Hi everyone!

I'm going on holiday to Brazil in a few days' time and want to pay a visit Brasilia - surely the ultimate superfuturistic city... Does anybody know a hotel in true Brasilia style, meaning cool sixties architecture and interior? I don't mind if it's a bit run down, as long as it's not globalized manager fare with smelly airco and Southfork-Ranch-furniture. Can't find anything inspiring on the internet...

We stayed at a great hotel in Brasilia, the Blue Tree Park hotel. I found it on nwa.com. Go to hotels and put in Brasilia and you'll find it. Just make sure you stay at the hotel that faces the lake, not the other wing. It's pretty easy to figure out. A really cool design hotel with an amazing pool. Just don't be surprised if it's basically deserted. There was hardly anyone there when we were there last October. Also, we booked through Orbitz or something but then were charged at the hotel, which was cheaper anyway. The hotel can help you book an architectural tour, which is the easiest way to get around. Also, Alexandre Herchovitch has a boutique in one of the malls in Brasilia, I forget which one, but look around on the internet and you'll find it. It's the more upscale mall that is on kind of the outskirts of town. What else? We didn't experience any great restaurants there, but I'm sure they exist, we really didn't do enough research. Also, you can just take a cab from the airport to the hotel. It's pretty cheap.

Have a great time! And bring your phrase book. The hotel staff knew english but the restaurant we went to spoke hardly any!

From what I have read, the Brazilians do not really spend much time in Brazil, they tend to go back to primary residences out of town once they get business done in the capital...

Hi all!

Back from Brazil and Brasilia, here's my discovery: Hotel Nacional, http://www.hotelnacional.com.br

It was the first 5-star-hotel to be built in Brasilia and hasn't changed much since 1960, which is exactly what I was looking for... Great lobby with original furniture, lamps and wood panelling. In addition, the guys at the reception were so happy to receive some foreigners instead of the usual Brazilian business men, they assigned us a room on the 10th floor with a tremendous view across the central axis, cathedral and 'Praca dos 3 poderes'. Luckily, it had never been updated either and still sported a beautiful dresser and comfy chair, all in very authentic nicotine beige ;-) So if you like the morbid charme of by-gone futuristic glamour, this is the place to be - for approx. 65 Dollars a night.
