breaking down a t-shirt

So here is my question....

I know that in LA there are these wash houses on every corner that dye shirts and do washing effects on them. (enzyme washing, silicone washing, acid washing, burn-outs, etc.)

Because I am in Chicago and LA, we don't have these. I would like to take various blank t-shirts and try to do an enzyme wash and a silicone softner to them to see how they turn out.

Does anyone know how you would do this and what supplies would be needed? I remember years ago there was a guy that put up a method using drano.
