Cool, Cheap... Dubai?!?

In mid-March, it looks like I'm going to be in Dubai for a weekend, and—ridiculously enough—I'm going to be on a budget. Anyone know of any affordable-but-cool hotels? (Or good layover deals?) Restaurants or stores that rock but won't blow my wallet out of pants? I think it might be tough, but I believe it's possible!

From what I have heard, going to Dubai without money is like going to Vegas when you don't drink or gamble........there really isn't a point.

Have fun though, and take pics to post. Need to get over there myself.

cheap and dubai cannot be used in the same sentence unless you also include the word not.

I've heard an entirely different story. I recently met a couple of Brits from Liverpool who didn't spend a lot of money, yet they had a blast! According to them there are plenty of luxury hotels and expensive shopping malls, but there are also hostels and cheaper restaurants where you can have a good (traditional) meal for a 'normal' price. Just don't go renting Hummers and shopping for jewelry, don't stay at 5 star hotels or eat at gourmet restaurants.

But most importantly: let us know how it was! I'm very curious.
