New Year's in Vancouver...

hey all you BC canucks!

a group of us [probably 8 or so] are rolling up to Vancouver for new years, and wanted to grab some recommendations about the best places to stay [affordability, closeness to bars]...also, what bars to hit up the night of, and how to weasel out of paying a fuckload in cover charges...

any hookups, advice, and what-not will be handsomely rewarded with drinks on us.

Yeah the best advice I have on cover is buy your tickets early, last year I went down to visit friends last minute and was paying $75 cover.

As for places to stay, there are two Best Western's on Granville Street, both close the bars, as Granville is the main entertainment district.

or you can check the rosedale on robson, robson is the main shopping street and isn't too far from the bars (circa $10 cab)

The Quality Downtown is also near the first Best Western

Anyways best of luck, it's all expensive this close to New Years, as for the bars they all seem to be a ton of dudes, and I much prefer house parties.

clubs close real early, so don't get there too late, and plan something to do for later (and alcohol, cause you can't buy any after 11pm mon to sat and 7pm on sun, nothing sucks more that being completely dry on new years...). back when i was living in whistler, we would always go clubbing to sonar (http://www.sonar.bc.ca/), their hip-hop night were real good (especially the now defunct Circa thing they had going everywhere in Canada). don't know if the place has changed since cause i haven't been there in 4 years.
