fading pre-washed denim

I have a pair of black pre-washed jeans that I want to be more grey color. Is there anything I can do to them to make them look more washed out or greyer?

Dont do it. Just wash them many times with normal detergent and wear them hard, so you can get the look that they are actually used not that they are only lighter in color.

just let nature takes its course. if its quality denim, it will fade nicely. at the end of the day, you'll be wearing them and you'll be the judge if it turns out well. you can't predict for it to be grey unless you or someone has previous experience on the pair. otherwise, you're at the mercy of the moon and the stars.
