6. Disregard the neg rep. I made a glib comment in a denim thread and people flipped out and thought I was a denim hater.

NWT John Smedley Leander sea island cotton long-sleeved polo, small

$130 --> $100

Woven of very fine, soft, and slightly lustrous sea island cotton. Suitable for wear in summer because it is light (like a feather!), but not sheer.

The color is a light gray melange slightly lighter than pictured.

Half-raglan sleeves;

Fully-formed collar looks extremely nice;

Cuffable sleeves;

Matched, lustrous buttons at 3-button placket;

Ribbing at hem and cuffs;

New with tags;

Includes spare button;

Only stored on this hanger for the purposes of the photograph.

This is a true staple item, unchanged from the 50s or so (?). The fit is tapered and short at the hem, but with a delightful, louche drape, and the collar gives it that extra oomph that a limp polo or henley would lack. Nice in-between option.

I don't need to rave about the quality. John Smedley has been making knits for 225 years at mills in Derbyshire, England. There's nothing wrong with this item, and I'm tempted to keep it, but I have too many of these. Save on shipping, import duties and all that and buy it here! Goes for $200 at Barneys, $235 at South Willard.

Engineered Garments Shawl Collar Field Shirt Jacket, Wabash Stripe, small

$100

As far as I know, this particular color and fabric were only sold in Japan and that store in Toronto.

Deep indigo blue with ticking railroad stripe.

Very appealing boxy cut a la Ervell;

Buttons at cuffs;

Two side pockets, one outer breast pocket;

One inner breast pocket and one inner side pocket;

Piping at armholes;

Shawl collar;

Exciting topstitching at neck;

Button-over wind guard.

Note: There is a small defect, but I don't think it detracts from the overall garment. There are about 10 specks or dots on the upper right shoulder area from bleach. I wore this to the laundromat once and some unwitting fool had left bleach over all of the surfaces. See the photos for details -- they are pinprick size and, while visible, don't visibly mar the look because it is a "chore jacket." I always considered this as part of the lived-in patina, but caveat emptor.

Jil Sander F/W 09 charcoal flannel slacks, size 46EU/30US

SOLD

I am hesitant to let these go, because they are my most comfortable, attractive pant, but let's list them anyway.

From F/W 09 season, Raf Simons supervised, etc., these are meant to be worn uncreased - they are unlined. Which is what you want, because the drape of the fabric is amazing!

Worn a handful of times. Retail was $550 at MAC.

Top-notch, soft flannel with a velvety hand;

Button-crotch and two-point (metal) closure;

Made in Italy: immaculate seamwork and taped edges;

Darting at back in the signature "slanted" Jil Sander style;

Piped pockets sit flat and resemble besom pockets;

Tapers acutely from the knee down, to a small leg opening (7'');

Just dry cleaned, hangs in cedar, etc.

That's it! There are no superfluous details or meaningless buttons on the pockets. Minimalism at its finest. Subtle, understated charcoal color and a beautiful silhouette. The cut is tapered, but the clever seamwork means there is no tightness or awkwardness anywhere. They feel completely fluid and drape beautifully. I never felt like I was wearing "slim" pants when wearing these, thanks to the subtle tapered curve from the thigh down to the ankle.

New Muji "Ochiwata" long-sleeve cotton tee, small

$10

Soft, slightly slubby cotton tee in a light blue color somewhere between sky blue and seafoam. Made of "dropped yarn," as they call it, which imparts a slightly gauzy quality to the material. It has some stretch, but the shoulders and body are well-constructed and fit smartly. Three-quarter length sleeves that look good rolled up.

New and unworn. Color is closest to pics 3 and 4.
