My recomendation is Phaidon's Wallpaper city guide:

Currently the only Australian one is an edition for Sydney but there is one coming for Melbourne. Funnily enough I haven't checked out the one for Sydney but I have used a few while traveling o/s myself and they have been great - often having awesome things the locals did'nt know about.

i wont be able to always have the internet the whole trip. i wouldnt mind spending the 15 dollars to have some sort of guide in my backpack the whole time just incase.

hope the sydney guide is finished by october!
