Help: Data Recovery

So my external HD has taken a massive shit and I need to try and get the data (most important thing is photos) recovered. Does anyone have any experience with data recovery services? I have looked into a few places and they seem to start around $600+. Any recommendations would be highly appreciated.

I have searched online and neither Maison Martin Margiela nor Ann Demeulemeester seem to offer data recovery services. I'm out of ideas, frankly.

lol at the replies. Ridiculous to post this in supershopper. However, Data Rescue 3 might help you - I work in digital arts and have used it to recover two 3 TB discs that had crapped out. Granted their hard drives weren't toast - but there was no way to get them to communicate with any computer or function. I definitely saved the company a ton of money doing it myself.

Didn't know where to put this, maybe supertrash would be better, if so, can a mod do that? I got in touch with MMM and Ann D, there were some good recovery options, but I figured a floral print shirt would be better.
