Levi’s CEO, Chip Bergh, was airbrushed out of this image for fear it would hurt sales but the fact is that Levis joined the Dark Side when they shuttered ‘555’.
As @LuckiestRacoon says above...there are so many superior JP denims at this price point.

Thanks for posting the new catalog.
Really love the 15-oz Cotton/Linen HBT “Le Vaillant” for Tropical wear.

Very useful information on your own experience. I like the roominess of the 36W as well but I may try a 34W just to see what happens and to see what kind of stretch I can achieve.
I have found this Oki fabric can be manipulated when the fibers are still saturated from a long soak. I have actually stretched an extra 1” at the inseam from new and that has remained with no further effort.
Cheers

I was wrong...it can be bottled...Lol
After all, is anything “too good” for our denim”?
Bottled air from the Swiss Alps:

Same here. ;-)
I am fortunate enough to live in an arid climate where I can line dry outdoors. The fresh air and the UV from sunlight can’t be “bottled”.

On that subject, what IS the best way to rinse out the soap?
Use a fragrance free detergent such as that made for down products. Most detergents are designed to partially remain on clothing but Woolite and similar designed products leave no residuals.
Followed by a rinse or two with just water and gentle agitation. The detergent molecules are attracted to water at one end and gentle agitation will break the bonds they have with the clothing and they will drain off with the water.

@chambo2008 My first thoughts are similar - how are you washing your jeans? If they are not completely thoroughly clean from a wash and/ or not rinsed properly there could some residual substance causing the mustiness. Soap can get turn funky. I highly doubt there's any sort if contamination in your storage area otherwise you'd have a much broader issue than just jeans
Musty smell is the result of mildew and mold spores and moisture.
If it smells musty then you have an issue that can be masked by fresheners and cedar but that will continue to exist until surfaces are wiped down with simple disinfectant or vinegar. Thats just science.
Some of the issue can be that the jeans are not thoroughly dry at time of storage while lighter fabrics are.
A simple test for detergent residue would be to place one pair of freshly washed jeans in a ziplock and see what they smell like stored somewhere else.

I don’t think laundered clothes should smell musty in four months. This sounds like you have a contamination issue that keeps getting passed along and you could wipe down your dresser or closet with a disinfectant. Then after you wash each pair of denim you could place them in 2-gallon ziplock bags.
A quick fix might be to add some cedar chips to your storage area. This just masks the smell.
EDIT:
I see the cedar has already been suggested multiple times.

For vintage-inspired ones like we wear, rivets shouldn't be going anywhere though.
The fact many of us wear 1-3 denim pants in an entire year, I am not sure our pursuit can be classified as environmentally wasteful.

The demise of the rivets?
CNN article suggests as much to be more environmentally responsible:

I am really late to this whole party of IG and Influencers. Reading @mikecch above I at first thought he has a rather inflated opinion of himself and his opinions BUT the fact these brands pay him is good evidence people actually put value in what he says.
What a wild concept to me.
I am exclusive to SugarCane based on each item description from the Brand which are backed up by photos. Why would anyone take the advice of a guy who gets monetary gain about the product he is shilling? It lacks authenticity. Its not real...its fiction. Its like reading comparisons of motorcycles in various publications, they never offer criticisms but only cheerleading. That being said, mike is just an advertiser...no ill will mike.
BTW Buddy. Would you do a write-up for Aero Leather in a Size 44 Brown Horsehide Longshoreman with the sheerling lining and then sell it to me at a big discount?
Spread the Wealth ;-)

Have you thought about just stopping the IG habit?
I have never been on IG and I am happy as a Clam and every moment of my life is unicorns, rainbows and JP denim. (Not neccessarily in that order.)

I think I am wearing a size too large and the extra roominess is not properly stressing the denim.
I need to try a 34W next round.

Sweet Jesus those are beautiful.
The fade and the creasing is way more than my own Okies (40301) with similar time worn.
Can you describe wash/soak protocol and detergent used and whether you machine dry? Do you turn inside out? Were those raw or one wash?
Man they are beautiful.

Does the Samurai 20-oz denim shrink more than other brands?
I saw a used pair on Grailed tagged 38W that hand measured 34-3/4”W.
Gorgeous fading.

Fascinating.
I am not familiar with IG and these recent insights remove any impetus I might have had.
It makes me appreciate this forum even more.

That sounds like a great investigation...and fun!

66,000 JPY ??
I would get banned for typing what I feel like telling Levis at this point.
I would rather buy 4 pair of SC41047 for that kind of donero.

Levis UK also has two versions (Rigid) of most models now - the cone (I'm guessing) is in limited sizes left in stock the other is available for most sizes, now including a 36" leg 37...
Fascinating.
How does the new denim compare?

Fantastic that at 3 years the denim has much integrity remaining. This indigo sure appears to hold to the fabric far more than Samurai.
Kudos on the clothes line and pins and that beautiful stitching on the blue quilt.

Most excellent photos !
I am at 5 washes currently and I have also soaked them with the hose before I go motorcycling in 100*F heat. Your photos give me much encouragement to stick with these and not swap out for my SC41947.
Incredible your red lacquer is still holding fast to the Cobra patch. All of mine has worn off but my scales are in tact since I treat with an Exotic Leather Conditioner.

Does anyone have some Okinawa’s (50/50) with some good fading they can post photos of? And how long it took to get there.
Thanks

Sorry. Poor attempt at humor on my part.
I agree completely on the tucked in shirt with belt suggestion to work the proper look. I did not see them as being too low but I would say the cuff is too high although it could be camera angle or boot style. I think with time the denim will betteeconform to his body.
Your further description is very observant.

Not sure. I work construction so all my jeans get beat up very fast. Hahaha
I know just what you are saying then. The entire aging process is accelerated in those conditions. Would be cool to post photos of your favorite “fade”.
Its a bold sacrifice to wear high end denim on the construction site. You must be Union to afford the cost...haha.

Excellent!
Thanks so much for the details and it was great to see the same denim in a different light (on the NYC rooftop).
