  1. Do any new SC pants come with these buttons? So cool.

Like the original cloth patch on the first style 40001 or 41001?

I am a SC fan and have bought 6 pair in 8 months but I am of the opinion they are not focusing their energy on the brand like they used to in the archives I see. Hope I am wrong.

It's a Chinese brand, but the quality is very good. Yes, it's button fly. The model is 608H I believe. On mine (size 34), waist is 36, front rise 12, back rise 16.5, thigh 13, and knee 9.25.

Very helpful measurements. If they don't shrink then I would need a 34W because those hand measurements are more like a 36W in SC.

I would love a pair of sugar canes, just not sure the thigh would work for me at the waist size I prefer.  I wish more folks made a true '55 cut(my personal favorite).

I have found the thighs on my SC Okinawa are quite large but they aren’t a ‘55 cut.

I am real happy with the Lot 303 and they have close to a ‘55 cut IMO and Pants Shop Avenue might have your size. Also the Lot 304 (). Naoki is very quick about hand measurements.

  4. I watch Grailed and Ebay and I see the occasional used Okinawa come up for sale but I never see any 2nd hand Hawaii listed.

Is this other's experience as well?

    Any idea why?

I missed a chance at a pair of Okinawa rainbow selvedge about a year ago on Ebay. It was the very early stages of my SC conversion from Levi's and I did not realize the opportunity it was. They still call my name on restless stormy nights...Lol

I am sure we each have a similar regret.

  5. @cjfergs

    SF Store visit 2011.

Was it the same flagship store that is there now? I was disappointed when I made the pilgrimage there in January 2017. Maybe they had just finished a sale but their LVC inventory was almost non-existent.

So then I walked down to the Headquarters where the small museum is located. The cool thing about that was to hang with the “repair shop” seamstress for awhile and see some of her handiwork. She was in her own space to the left as you enter the building.

That's not stretched out. It's typical fly placket fading on button fly jeans.

I’ll have to take your word for it because I have been wearing button fly 501’s for about 45 years (which is probably close to 100 pairs) and wrung every last bit of life from the denim and not one time have I ever seen that amount of fly placket fading.

Is it more common with dry humping? ;-) Maybe some of my HS jeans looked like this!

  7. These are not LVC but they are selvedge.

I bought them raw several years ago with a paper tag that said 1947.

The dye is crap and has taken forever to release but the one thing I really like about them are the aluminum rivets.

Its the first time I have ever seen these and even though the aluminum has oxidized with age, they “work” with the fade.

    Sorry the lighting is horrible.

I have never seen anything like these buttons on the fly being stretched out.

Just how tight do you wear these?

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.  ;-)

Just wondering if anyone wish to share what are some of their favorite pairs of LVC and why?

I just started with a 1937.  My first proper LVC, the fit and lighter oz fabric has been great so far for 35C plus weather in Thailand.

Shoot Buddy, I just left Thailand 2 days ago. Timing was off as I was there for the heat but work ended right when rainy season started.

I love my 37’s for exactly that reason...lighter weight and loose fit allows for good air circulation. Plus I can cinch and not wear a belt. I like the 201’s for that reason as well.

Plus there are so many sidewalk seamstresses to keep them alive !

    EDIT:

These are ‘33s and I need to unpack my ‘37s.

Just received it a few days ago and I'm wearing it today for the first time. It doesn't really compare to a SDA or an IH, but for $124 total, it's hard to beat. For now it's very stiff and dark. I went from the slim fit L, which is my usual size in Gustin, and it works well.

They show Sold Out now but I would have grabbed one for sure at that price  ;-(

  11. The Carhart Denim Loggers with double-knee used to hold up better than the Brown Duct Double-knee.

There was a brand of double-front denim USA-Made that held up much better than Carharts that were only available through logging outfitters called “Wild Ass” Denim. Then they went overseas and their customer base has no use for foreign products and walked away.

Well they started making them again with US denim and made by prisoners in Oregon.

I always wore the cuffs unhemmed and frayed which looked bad ass over a pair of worn-in Whites or Wesco.

    Also come in single-knee.

    Both Raw.

  12. @Rob060,

HS years are challenging years as young men try to find their place and identity in society while simultaneously having massive amounts of hormones suddenly crash their bodies and minds.

I have more sorrow than anything for many of those Redneck kids you describe because they mostly belong to lower income families that are stuck in a paradigm that is harder and harder to find relevancy or success in this modern world.

I guess you're referring to some of the recent posts in the TCB contest thread. Something I’ve always enjoyed about the contest and tour threads is the insight they give into forum users lives, other interests, trips, etc and I personally welcome these little digressions. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I for one don’t mind.

    Peace.

I’m wearing a pair of vintage 517 orange tabs right now. I look pretty cool if you ask me.

They are Super Cool if you can pull off the whole look.

Especially at the Roller Rink skating to Elton John “Crocodile Rock”.

  15. The real stand out feature for Wranglers is the additional two belt loops on the back side. I always have to sew these into my non-Wrangler jeans to make them good for manly work.

Ofcourse if you are going to wear your Wranglers Cowboy “proper” then they need to have a starched & pressed crease and be worn tight with high heels and a scarf. (I mean cowboy boots and a bandanna...Lol)

Here are the proper instructions  that every kid in TX learns by age 10:

regular 501 in The Regent St store have Big E LEVIS tags too - as well as ones on sale in department stores. It's a strange decision that could impact LVC or it's just a change in approach like when they lowered cased the Levis tag.

When the small “e” was introduced, there was no earlier precedent; however, the Big “E” is symbolic of a higher value product. Both the original jeans from that bygone era and now the LVC “brand” which has been partly described by the Big “E”. That red tag, along with selvedge and other items were each unique to the Premium Levi line and which Levis charges a much inflated dollar value.

I think the vast majority of consumers will equate the Big “E” with a higher value product and the Corporate heads at Levis wants to exploit that.

So its pretty much like this. The Big “E” is short for Evil Empire. Their denim has about all the uniqueness of a Stormtrooper. Its the Dark side of the force and JP denim are like the last remaining Jedi.

Not to be all preachy, but you might want to lose some of that as soon as possible as it is almost impossible to lose the weight as you get older, take it from me.

Malaria helped me shed about 5 kilo.

It might seem like a drastic weight loss plan but no worse than liposuction.

  18. Egads.

The forum is being overrun by photos of Cats. Not denim with cats in the background, mind you, but images of Just Cats...some even allegedly under the influence of drugs. Catnip abuse? And people are stressing about an occasional lengthy quote?

For the love of God, whats next?

Will we soon see Cats dressed in denim following Julian Assange’s penchant for dressing his cat in formal wear?

And what is with the sideline topic of someones knife collection. I am a minimalist, my single Ginsu can do everything it takes that entire collection to do AND my Ginsu can cut through aluminum cans. Can those knives do that?

How are people worried about an unedited quote when the forum is dissolving into complete chaos.

Whats next? Someone hijacking a denim thread to display their old stamp collection from middle school days?

I hear you with the nostalgic, end of an era lament (and regretable human impact through job loss)

    However change can bring upsides

The demise of selvedge, mocs & chups ankle pandering on other social platforms

And, to try to satisfy our insatiable ongoing needs... new, niche denim talent producing and reproducing amazing denim things...

    No doubt there are more...

Yes, OK, when given lemons then make lemonade and all that but the sad reality is the next era that is in chronological order is actually repo Disco and then moving into Acid Rock.

The ‘47 and ‘55 being replaced by studded bell bottoms and polyester and bootcut and then into the 80’s dad cuts with stonewash and a “scosh” more room.

  20. @501XX4EVER

    Excellent post. 100% spot on.

Cone saw this writing on the wall.

Not only market factors of waning demand in the selvedge “retro” denim scene but a global economic cycle that is going to be returning to a bear market in the next 4-6 years where disposable income currently being spent on $200+ denim is going to dry up.
