  1. @jeash90 Broadcast is high tier, but surely no one outranks Boards of Canada
  2. Agreed @CSL, seems like a very similar pattern. It works well (aesthetically, at least—much less so from a fit perspective) with the standard V-bar sole, not so much with the crepe though
  3. That silhouette looks a lot more awkward than the more standard desert boot chukkas that they did a few years ago (and I think the earlier ones were around 400 USD at S&S, which felt more reasonable)
  4. @vIGGiou riou Thanks It’s funny you ask—I was a little worried about further shrink, so I tugged on the legs a bit while they were wet. They feel like they’re about the same length they were before, so either they did shrink more and the tugging worked or they didn’t and it didn’t. Who’s to say?

  7. No extra care needed: the natural roping on these is crazy
  8. Wash day today! I’ve never made a habit of taking pre-wash photos of jeans, partly because I’ve always cared more about the long term than about the day-to-day and wash-to-wash changes, but mostly because I think that having any folds creases / bags makes it a whole lot harder to get consistent lighting, and as a result the photos tend to look artificially contrasty. Anyway, I think I might try to be consistent about it for these jeans. I don’t expect to wear my ‘51 601xx or my Foreman Pants much in the next year and a half, so I’ll try to always include those as a color / saturation reference. That said: 3 weeks’ daily wear, before washing: …and after: Really pleased with how they’re coming along, even if still skeptical about how fast they’re losing color. Good puckering and roping, and a really great crinkle to the fabric that got brought out by the trip through the machine—it reminds me a lot of some old White Oak denims in that regard, although of coarse it’s early to say much. Noticed some cute evidence of a little loom chatter on the back of the right leg, above the knee, that’s lightened up a little extra. Disappointed by how much the patch had already faded—wasn’t the fancy foil stamp supposed to help with that?—but overall feeling plenty good about the prospect of another 17 months and change in these.
  9. A friend of mine had pulled up a whole lot of irises, so I got my hands on some and spent this afternoon weeding / turning / planting / mulching The bulbs were in big root clumps of 10–20 per, so the first step was shaking them all apart Turned the old soil—really nice and easy after a week of heavy rain—then fortified with some new topsoil. Probably pulled 100+ linear feet of old bamboo roots in the process Then in with the bulbs, plus some forget-me-not seeds, and a layer of mulch for safe keeping. The awful saturated false red is all my neighborhood shop has, and I can never be bothered to go farther afield for something better. After a few weeks in the sun, it does end up bleaching to a nice facsimile of honest redwood feat. Union Special, Two Ears Brand, Great Lakes, Hollows, Russell

  11. West Ride would be the first brand I’d look forward to trying if I were ever after that sort of cut Maybe also Trophy Clothing?
  12. I wear the same thing every day, not sure why I bother with these still (edit: Speaking of fancy clothes fatigue…) Union Special x2 / Great Lakes / Word of Mouth / Russell
  13. @Cold Summer Those jeans fit great. Still going back and forth on whether I should have snagged a pair. Really like the cut of that shirt, too; it’s hard to find a modern short-sleeved button-up that doesn’t have the pockets pushed up way too high

  15. Off to a real fast start, already seeing electric blues at some high-friction points around the lap / whiskers, and even some white on the hems—starting to worry that by 18 months they’ll be all the way washed out! 17. @Geeman Good shout, not familiar with them but they seem like a really good option. Might fall back on trying one of those if I can’t find a good vintage alternative @yung_flynn I’ve actually been seeing a lot of ads for Withernot, recently. Their designs look good but all they have to say about their provenance is “imported”, which feels tough to support
  18. @yung_flynn Really envious of that rugby shirt; those are such a classic look. All the modern ones seem to be cheap & outsourced. McCoy’s did a great version 2–3 years ago (I think it was actually even in a similar color to yours) but the fit was all wonky. Gotta get back into scanning vintage shops, I guess

  20. @Thicolas Rage A small run of them was made by TCB for Kiriyama Works, an auto shop with whom they have a long-standing relationship (I’m sure you’ve seen photos of the shop on TCB’s blog / shop / social media). Ryo was very helpful in coordinating with them to get me one. It’s the same denim and lining as the recent late-WWII jacket. More photos to come!
  21. @tooth If $50 for one magazine is crazy, I’m not sure how to categorize $60 for one magazine…
