SUPERDENIM SMALL QUESTIONS THREAD (Use instead of making new threads)
Alec Leamas replied to minya's topic in superdenim
Oh they’re lovely! Do you have any comparison to other Alden lasts sizing wise? It appears the common wisdom is to go the same as your Barrie last size.. There’s a nice pair of the Kafka Mercantile make up of the military derby going for a great price on eBay.. I’m virtually there I was just gathering a few more notes on the sizing! Ha -

Do any of you good people have experience with the Alden 379x / Military last? -
Agreed, looks like a good fit, and yes once they soften up they'll feel a lot better I'm sure!
-
For info, mine are up for sale, I ultimately came down on the fact I got the size wrong. A learning experience, if they do a re-run I may be tempted to get a size or two bigger.
-
Yes @willi they look awesome! Didn't need the reminder that I wanted a pair though! Still never really nailed down my ideal WW2 era pair

I would say that the fabric Warehouse produce now is V V susceptible to the veiny fades (I can't comment on historic fabric), but I have also noticed it promimently in my Buzz Rickson chambray shirt, I guess it's the diagonal pull you get from washing and the warp x weft working against each other (or some such scientific thing).

Very excited that those of us who do celebrate Christmas might be putting our waistbands to the test over the festive period!! 🍰

They do yes, much more of a straight down from the knee 50's kind of vibe, the waist is also larger on these. These are the raw measurements from their site: 220XX-47 W34: Waist (W) - 88cm Thigh (T) - 34cm Front rise (F) - 33.5cm Back rise (B) - 45cm Length (L) - 88cm Hem width (O) - 22.5cm 220XX-54 W34: Waist (W) - 92cm Thigh (T) - 35.5cm Front rise (F) - 33.5cm Back rise (B) - 44.5cm Length (L) - 89cm Hem width (O) - 24cm

SUPERDENIM SMALL QUESTIONS THREAD (Use instead of making new threads)

Great stuff. Either an addition of a rubber layer on a leather sole, or a resole of a leather sole to a lugged unit. On some preowned Alden's. Locating the decent cobbler would guide as to which pair I get and consequently which job I need doing! -

Any of us in the North of the UK have any recommendations for good cobblers? The guy I usually use also works on the TV show Repair Shop and has shut up shop indefinitely to focus on similar projects. The work I am after is by no means niche or specialist, though naturally I want clean, precise, high quality work doing so my local Timpsons is out of the question! (unless of course anyone can recommend a secret Timpsons ninja who is actually really good) -
@PrettyBoyTony you'll be sound I'm sure! Exciting, such a great pair for your first raw jeans!
-
I know right! The denim is different though for sure, but cut and construction-wise very similar; Warehouse have their formula for a 1947 cut and it's good, I guess they don't need to deviate!
-
They are taking on a lovely state of wear I must say, I guess that's why I'm picking up the 54's too! I received these first week of August, worn pretty regularly since (no other jeans, wore chinos on wash days, recently started wearing another WH pair last couple of weeks or so)

👀 I mean, all kinks are welcome. I don't think any of us minds what everyone else gets up to behind closed doors. -
Absolutely my preference for denim jacket fit! Cropped and boxy, sleeve length looks perfect too!

My ideal waist is 41 to 42cm laid flat and I always go for 34, in Warehouse/Denime specifically. I could be an outlier though.
