I got this chinstrap WH flannel (top shirt in photos) with the Duck Digger tag from @willi late last year and it’s been one of my favorite shirts for this winter along with my Cushman sweatshirt. That made me a little curious about the real (non-repro) deal. I ended up picking up a vintage Frostproof flannel from the 70s? after going down a rabbit hole. Some of the details are a little different (no chinstrap, no side gusset - I think WH pulls from Five Brothers, Braveman, Frostproof, etc) but the overall color palette and pattern, fabric heft, and hand feel remind me a lot of the Warehouse repros. These Frostproof flannels are actually relatively plentiful, inexpensive (this one was leas than $50 shipped), and MiUSA with 100% cotton and long sleeves (a rarity for vintage shirts in my experience).

If you or anyone else is in the market for a 1942 buckle back, Kato-san from Rockets told me that he can customize his models to cover the entire period from 1937-1942

I got this one off eBay for less than $50 (made in Narranganssett, RI). I’ve seen one or two others pop up in this pattern for similar prices since I got it too. There’s a few other Rugged Wear color ways out there too that I’ve run across but most are a little too vaporwave for me. Withernot sells a rugby really close to this one for $125 but I have no experience with their stuff

Thanks! This is helpful. I have the opposite problem because I’m 6’3-6’4”. I can wear the Cushman XL set in sleeve fully uncuffed, but any shorter than those sleeves would not work.
-
Do the sleeve lengths on the freedom sleeve models fit as short compared to the set-in sleeve models as the size charts suggest? I think that there was about a 2" difference between an XL sleeve length across the two models, but I know that it's hard to compare due to the different sleeve constructions.

I personally find that the fit of the 1001xx-1947 is on the slimmer side. I posted a photo of them in WAYWT a few days ago for reference. My pair is noticeably slimmer than my Sugar Cane 1947 pair in both the thigh and the leg opening. My WH has been worn and washed many more times though. They're also a size 31 though and I'm big for my waist size, so they might fit a bit looser at larger sizes or on smaller builds

Pulled out some banner denim for the first time in a while. Denime/Cushman/WH Duck digger/Franks I really like the lap fades on these. I just wish that they were 1-2” longer in the inseam. The Rockets are shaping up to have some nice whiskering at least and I will be more careful drying them (not having a newborn will help)

The Dispossessed is one of my favorite sci-fi's. I also always look for J. G. Ballard vintage paperbacks, but those are hard to find with the exception of my copy of Concrete Island which was not in my photos. I have always loved hardboiled novels and film noir. My first introduction was watching a lot of the classic noir with my grandparents as a boy, which was the start of my love of film. If I did not turn out to be an engineer/chemist/scientist, I would have loved to have gone for a Film Studies or English PhD instead. Instead, it's just a hobby that I still found creative outlet for in photography and writing. I wrote a screenplay a few years ago between the end of my post-doc and start of my current job. The 1947 film adaptation of Lady in the Lake is worth a watch for novelty's sake, since it's a rare film shot from a 1st person perspective. If you like the Marlowe, books the Lew Archer series is worth a read as well. They're my favorite hardboiled novels once MacDonald finds his own voice around book 5. Incidentally, film is tangentially related to how I became interested in Japanese denim, particularly of the repro variety. My other long running film interests besides noir was classic Japanese cinema, which branched out into curiousity about other Japanese things. Eventually, it fused with my interests in mid-century noir when I discovered that Japanese brands were making exact reproductions of vintage mid-century Levis. we have some cool movie posters in our basement as well, although not vintage. Some are custom designs for film retrospectives from a micro theatre in the Twin Cities that my wife and I used to frequent when we lived there.

I think that you're right. That seller had a new listing appear this morning for the green tab Hawaii in w33. SUGAR CANE SC40100 W33 L34 - メルカリ

Anyone interested in longwing brogues from Trickers? These are a brown scotch grain Richard model in a UK11 on the w2298 last. They’d probably work best for a 11.5-12 D Brannock. I didn’t pay enough attention to the stamp before purchasing so they are way too short for me. Im asking for what I paid - $120 shipped (preferably CONUS)
-
Thanks! I’ve seen the size charts across a few places and sleeves seem like an inch shorter than Cushman and what I’d need. I like the Cushman ones and would be perfectly happy with more but I’m a serial sampler at heart.

Nice restoration. There is a guy near use who specializes in acquiring and restoring mid century furniture. We’ve gotten a few things from him in the last couple of years. Something that I enjoy collecting are vintage pulp paperbacks. I especially like ones with Robert McGuinness or McGuiness-inspired cover art. When we find ourselves in a bigger city, we make a point to stop at a local used bookstore to browse the mystery and Sci-fi section. Most of our collection has been had at a couple bookstores in Twin Cities as well as Ann Arbor/Detroit. We have nearly the entire Travis McGee series and most Lew Archer series paperbacks now. Some of my favorites are below.

@Thicolas Ragei really like the fit of your 30s. They’ll go on my list of pairs to consider in the future. In my mind, TCB fits work best when one embraces the sag. Also what is the sleeve length like on the Deluxeware s101 sweatshirt? I’ve considered them before but was a little skittish because my arms are very long. I went with a set-in sleeve Cushman instead and the XL there is barely long enough in the sleeves for me

Some photos of the Rockets I really like the fit and hope they don’t shrink too much more Denime/Cushman/Rockets/Red Wing Harley/Brooks Brothers/Rockets/Rancourt

THIS OR THAT? (Use me for all your Should I Buy...? questions)
yung_flynn replied to tweeds's topic in superdenim
I’ll echo the Deluxeware recommendation, mostly out of selfish curiosity to see what they’re like. -
Here are the post-wash measurements and some fit pics for the Rockets (size 32). Roughly a 7.5% shrinkage across the board I’m sure that the front rise and waist will stretch a decent amount Waist: 15.5” Front Rise: 11.5” thigh: 12.5” Leg Opening: 8.7” Inseam: 32.5” I went back and forth between size 31 and 32. Kato-San said that either would work but recommended 32 because the pattern is more balanced. I’m happy with my choice. I like the fit a lot. It feels like there is more room in the crotch than the rise measurement suggests. The denim is also really dark with a coarse hand feel. They should be slow faders. According to Kato-San, the yarn have been dyed deeply with more than 12 dying steps. I’m excited to get some good wear on these starting in 2025. I’ll get some better photos in WAYWT too once the snow clears some and the sky is less grey

I kind of agree. I only rarely pull them out to wear but I have yet to get to a stage where I entertain the thought of laying out for measurements or photos. Every time I wear them I feel like I should wear them more too. I just have been grabbing my Kyotos for that type of fit at the moment. The Cats Drove would be a good candidate for me to take on a trip for some sustained wear.
-
Thanks! I really like the Cats Drive denim and its hand feel. I’m still on the fence if that fit is for me though. The No. 2 pair might be my favorite from them though. I weirdly like how saggy the seat is on them
-
How’s the denim feel compared to the No. 2 which I think that they based the different gauge yarn concept on?
-
They look and feel more like chambray. They definitely don’t look like the denim pocket bags that Simone shared for WoM. I’m guessing that the Rockets site just had a mistranslation. The HBT pocket bags were out of stock in my size but I’m not complaining either. The 37 model from Rockets also looks nice and uses the same denim. I think that there is something different about their sewing or construction based on how they’re marketed (part of their higher price) but I couldn’t figure it out so I couldn’t really justify the $80-90 price difference. The rise is noticeably higher on those though (12.8” for 32 waist after washing I think) and the thigh and leg opening are about a half inch wider
-
@Broark I’ll take a peek and snap a pic. They do look more like chambray

My mom moved this fall and sent me my old high school lettermen’s jacket. I finally got around to having it cleaned and snapped a pic just for fun. No clue how i ever thought that this was my size Cushman/Buzz/Red Wing

These arrived for me yesterday. They’re the s0001xx model from Rockets - WW2 with denim pocket bags. I like the look and feel so far and am hoping to wash and hang dry (need to minimize inseam shrinkage) before my in-laws come for Christmas. Here are the pre-wash measurements, some photos (not my greatest work), and some pre-wash fit pics. The darker blue colors are most accurate it’s really grey and snowy here and I didn’t have time to bring out my real camera setup. I will update fit and measurements once washed waist (laid flat and not aligned): 16.75”/42.5 cm front rise: 12.25”/31 cm thigh (at crotch seam): 13”/33 cm leg opening: 9.2”/23 cm inseam: 35”/89 cm
