Denim Blunders, Reflections and General Nonsense.
Dr_Heech replied to cmboland's topic in superdenim
@Double 0 Soul you'll have to add 'Dressed as an ice cream vendor' to the list 😁 although that seems to be a more 2020's sufu thing. I think there was a PoW trend too, whether it was items with Prisoner of War abbreviations or those black and white/brown and white striped 20's/30's prisoner outfits. Also remember a trend where everything had an anchor on it, from watch caps to jackets, although could've dreamt that last one (?) -
SUPERDENIM SMALL QUESTIONS THREAD (Use instead of making new threads)

It's hammer time (can't touch this.) -
@MJF9 The top pair of og 1942 501XX are the ones owned by the man from Foremost l think. The ones in the book are Larry's (Hellers Cafe) but there is a third pair, or was l believe. Look into recent pages in the vintage thread to see that unwashed pair of 36x36 so called 42's but with a silver buckle. They were obviously sold to someone a while ago and it is possible that they are no longer raw and are now in use but it was Foremost l think who sold that pair. As l've already mentioned the silver buckle is the only fly in the ointment as every other detail seems to match the 42's criteria. Whilst you are waiting for your desired hem thread, are you having any popular pocket design(s) added? I have chosen Larry's design but can't verify here. Send you a pm in the week when lm back home.

Thanks Neal and just plain ol' Doc will do, l'm fussy about my cheese related pronouns atm, sorta grates on me 🙂

So there's a Wrangler archive book which content-wise is a mystery so far - And now this War denim book - Probably all or most in Japanese but any intel on either is always welcome.

^Possibly? On your second point, l've seen quite a few black and white westerns, usually 40s or 50s, where the main and/or secondary characters are wearing what looks to be either a light tan/mustard or brown generic type one or type two, sometimes with metal buttons but mostly with sewn on types. Your comment above reminded me particularly of Jimmy Stewart in Winchester '73.

Hollywood cowboy 1950's. Quite obviously a Lee Riders 101J but for some reason the Lee Riders buttons have been replaced by what looks like sewn on black buttons. Even the cuffs have two on each! But then the Lee black tag on the pocket has been removed, maybe something to do with advertising?

Anybody here help me with more info on this Wrangler book release on lg? Just wondering how good is the content as l've never seen a dedicated Bluebell Wrangler archive book before. -

Been wanting a series one landrover for years, especially one of the 1948 pre-production models. So l was ecstatic to find this model BNIB Corgi Vanguards 1:43 scale 60th anniversary model (2008) - only 30 quid. -

Thanks Paul. Bought myself a series one landrover. Pics tomorrow hopefully. My son bought me a new sealskinz hat and left me a roughly scribbled note on a bit of ripped up paper saying "happy birthday dad, see you tomorrow". No card this year and didn't see him at all. Life -

Miss Paul T here sometimes. Always good lvc info's and great stories. Lovely bloke in person. Back in 2009 he gave me a signed copy of (one of) his books after my ex-wife left after only (luckily) being a member here on sufu for just a few weeks. Denim destroys lives people. -

All true of course but how does anyone know if l'm better-looking than you though Martin, as apart from myself and Mr B nobody knows your true identity 😁 Hope you had a great day yesterday. -

SUPERDENIM SMALL QUESTIONS THREAD (Use instead of making new threads)

Baggy is in apparently, Heech junior is either rocking my old FW47'S that are four sizes too big or a pair of 80s Carhartt carpenter/painter pants, and like you said, all pulled in with the belt. He's got all my 'old vintage' tees and tops too, mostly TKmaxx finds some fifteen years old now and my old Denimbruin tee l got from Mr Randall. Good to see stuff still being reused . -

Well remembered Neal, l am impressed. Yeah still going strong, they are my Roy OG's from 2010. Funnily enough my son recently wore them to cart a load of paving slabs, hollow block and hard-core round from next doors, as they're moving and this stuff was excess to his requirements. The red crossover stitch was to match the Roy chainstitch signature on the inside front pocket 😁 -

My Mrs did this for me on my vintage Bluebell Wrangler jacket. Still holding up well after 6 years or so. -
Why don't you wear that lush rust colour FW flight jacket. Never see you in a fit pic with it 🙂
-
Funnily enough Chevy Chase appeared in a music video by Paul Simon back in the 80's, the name l think was 'You can Call me AL'. I was a big fan of Chevy Chase films back in the day.

Thanks. I don't mind his wartime S501XX type repros but his buckleback models aren't as well researched imo. Also what love about Warehouse in particular is that you can unpick the arcs so they can look more like true repros.
-
Thanks, just as l thought. I already have this model though, albeit @beautiful_FrEaK's old Csf pair.
-
Seconded! @CharlieMike Is the 41 DSB the same as the supposedly Hinoya exclusive 1941 model do you know denim-wise? And l take it the 1942 is a WW2 model and not the 1942 buckleback? Cheers

^ 🤣 Yeah Neal, get in that rocking chair and start singing "tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree..."
