It’s not a repro jacket, but Companion Denim’s interpretation is sort of cut like a type 3 with a hybrid between 2/3 sort of details. Mine is heretically sanforized old stock Cone denim with poly stitching, but it’s really nicely done. It’s my slimmest jacket which is the main reason I’m not in it more often, but it still fits and still gets good use. If I wanted a longer/slimmer jacket I’d probably look at type 3 iterations generally. I’m 5’8”, 150 lb, with a 40” chest and 30” waist and I’ve found that while I can wear the slimmer things, the boxier versions give me more room around/chest shoulders which is why I prefer them - probably a bit opposite of you. I will say my Sugar Cane 1953 (I have the blanket lined) in size 38 works pretty well for me, but I wish it were about an inch or so shorter in the body. Again, that’s a point in your favor.

They’re great pants but personally I tend to prefer my denim 5 pocket only, and they’re a couple sizes too big.

It’s up there (for me) with rating jeans based on how well they dress up. If you throw a blazer on with jeans you’re dressing down the blazer (imo), not the other way around. The whole concept to me is still a bit misdirected - if you’re going to dress up, just own it. It’s not that I don’t think jeans can look nice and clean but there are better options if that’s the point. It’s like those Cole Haan “dress” shoes with sneaker soles. They look confused. I mean do what makes you happy but that is not any sort of positive development to my mind. But I agree it’s not an actual issue with quality. It’s never bothered me at all.

Yea there is definitely a contingent of people who go into the store because of a certain sort of curb appeal and then just pay whatever the price tag is without thinking too hard. They may think “nice jeans” but quite a few don’t really know why they’re nice - at least not in the way that people on this forum really would. And they’ll never care. At that level of income there are quite a few people who will pay twice the price for a level of convenience anyways.

I never knew he got into art, and I loved to see that he did. It makes it even worse that he took his own life. People never talk about that shit that way when it happens but having personally known three people in recent years who have done it I think it’s pretty dangerous to ignore that fact. I wish he’d gotten the help he needed, he clearly still had a lot to give and a lot of people to reach with his work. RIP to a true creative soul.

I actually don’t dislike them generally, but I don’t love the back pockets. Anything vaguely reminiscent of Lee is a hard no for me. But really, fair price for the labor or not, these days after $225 or so the law of diminishing returns for me sets in fast and hard when it comes to jeans. I can maybe be pushed a little beyond that on occasion apparently, but not that far. I hope someone enjoys them, I’m sure they will.

Denim Blunders, Reflections and General Nonsense.

As if one needed more proof that jeans = freedom -
i looked at them too but the measurements just don't compute to me in general. the thigh is really under 10 inches? that can't be right! especially if the waist is closer to a 32 in real sizes? also, it looks like it's his slimmest cut anyways, so even if they fit i'd pass - but good looking out!

Ha - my WH pair is 29. The 1003 must be different because I get the impression they run small to normal for everyone but for me the 29 of those is honestly the best fitting waist of any pants I have. It’s very slightly more snug feeling than my FC 30’s. I’m sure I could take the 0105 at 29 bc of the cut and the give of the denim, but, the proper size for the waist is definitely preferable. I bought my 1003xx (1946) at stock measurements for my pair that were accurate too, so it’s not like my pair was an anomaly from the production.

I’ll wash inside out first few times, it goes a long way towards avoiding marbling. For me, most pairs marble somewhat anyways once I go right side out, which I tend to do after the 4th or 5th wash. At that point I’m washing regularly and just not really sweating it - the only real thing is I rarely tumble dry. If marbling is not a concern, there’s really no other reason to do it IMO - but I tend to prefer the look of a regularly washed pair, even w/ some marbling.

Can’t speak to additional shrinkage but I found the measurements accurate. I tend to be a 29 or 30 and in FC I’m a 30. The great thing about this cut is you pretty much just need to size for the waist (for me the thighs can be the difference). You don’t need to worry about the rest because it will allow enough room. Edit - just want to note I'd be pretty surprised if additional shrinkage is significant. The patches on these prewashed jeans are pretty thoroughly toasted.

You can make that look work, but damn if they don't look like an unpleasant pair to wear in practice. I've been there - I've had pair of W28 in a slim cut that fit just fine at the waist and I did give some wear to, but never again. This was maybe 2014-15 so mixed in with the stretch leggings of everyone else it probably didn't stand out much, but they were given away some years later having seen not more than maybe 2 months total. (Try selling a pair of 28's). I don't think there's anything worse than thighs too small - a denim waist that's within range can stretch but the thighs are another story. So yea, I think you can actually pull it off, but if you enjoy pulling it off is another question.

I’m loving fullcount 0105 these days. It’s still repro styled, I guess, but the cut is more generous than really anything else I’m aware of, but it doesn’t look over the top. Agreed more specificity is needed. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a good looking pair of jeans that wasn’t a traditional cut (there’s a wide variety).

Yea to be quite honest I too am probably more inclined towards a long haul jacket contest than a jeans contest. Make it 4 years or something. But it still comes down to the item itself, I would need to like the item more than the idea of competing (because really I wouldn’t be).

I picked up my black FC 0105 for about $180 USD. I got the black/natural version but the black/black was about the same if I recall. You might email one of the retailers to see if a restock will come, I am not sure if it is part of the regular rotation now. The TCB 40’s aren’t available anymore - TCB made a black 30’s more recently, but I think those will be hard to track down too. In the absence of any of these, I really would look again at the Indigofera Kirk. It seems to be the only consistently produced pair (the Japanese brands tend to do limited runs). I would take those over McCoys, personally. Another maker that I’ve seen in this forum with black jeans is Phigvel, though iirc they were on the pricier side. As an aside, that selection from Blue Owl is rough. Everything is still relaxed tapered.

Fullcount released a few of their cuts in black, probably could still find those. OP doesn’t say it has to be black/black, but FC has both versions depending on cuts I think. Also, indigofera gunpowder denim. That’s what I ended up with a few years ago when I wanted a black denim jean that wasn’t a slim fit. Kirk was the fit. They’re beater jeans now but it’s a good pair.

They’ve been slow to respond to email inquiry for me in the past - i think like a week plus. But never that slow if I ordered something!
-
I’ve almost sprung for these in the past. But the zip fly and suspender buttons put me off. Still might, someday.
-
To be honest I’m generally not one for contests (never did one), but I’ll follow along to see what’s come up with. So, maybe.

My ridiculous username should be the giveaway here. Though, between Tender 132’s and Fullcount 0105’s I’m quite happy these days when I want to scratch that itch. They’re different, but both a little better suited to a middle aged man than some original Droors Stencil jeans. But I’d still love to see a TCB interpretation of this - it would be nicer because in the 90’s the mass market jeans pretty much sucked by then - you don’t want to directly reproduce that - so to make a 90’s cut with the maybe a good denim and repro details that TCB does. The cut couldn’t be too full though - I never went too far in the 90s and wouldn’t want to now.
-
Hear me out. 90’s. That’s the only contest I’m in for.

The avg. height of a male in the U.S. is 5’9” A 30” inseam is usually plenty for that height, with even a little extra for a cuff if you want. It can depend a bit on your particular frame. I’m 5’8” and jeans that come 30” out of the box with a nice chain stitch hem are too long, but good if turned up. I wish more came that length. Obviously lots of dudes are taller but it’s hard to call that the norm.

Those look fine! Also, you can uncuff. You do you but I wouldn’t shelve those at all.
