I wonder why he chose to reproduce a 30's jacket, which I find very similar to a type 1, as opposed to a rider's, which is very distinctive.

Right there with you @JDelage. A TCB-made storm rider would really be the dream for me.

  2. @ecsong187 SC47s are quite fabulous, if understated, and would be great to see juxtaposed to Roy's black seed cone denim. But...Okis are on another level; they're exceedingly rewarding as they go through a series of distinct stages of evolution.

Also, you can always get unwashed versions of 47s, okis, hawaii, & 2009 stateside from history preservation associates.

  3. Went to Milwaukee, of all places, for the first time last week (for a wedding). The city's downtown has some wonderful gilded age architecture, a great art museum on the shore of Lake Michigan, and a variety of interesting eateries, bars, breweries, and things to looks at, but hardly any people. It's a bizarre little ghost town that seems devoid of the younger urbanites that have caused (helped?) other metro areas across the U.S. to boom at an almost unmerciful rate. Part of me want to buy a downtown condo as an investment and just wait...

Duane Hanson's "Janitor"...not as famous as his tourist sculptures, but the outfit is probably more our speed.

I've been wearing my tcb's for a couple weeks doing grounds keeping work and other maintenance stuff for a local school division. I gave them a machine wash and left them outside to dry. they're soft with a lot of texture and a dry feel. A little peeved with how slow they're fading but that's the journey.

Anybody else not seeing @FreeCharlesManson's pics?

  5. I'm still here! I've been totally occupied with wrapping up the academic year, conference travel, and moving into a house (after almost 20 years of apartments) at the beginning of May. My 20s and a tcb 30s hat in the usmc herringbone have served as my yard work, gardening, and home repairs uniform. I'll post a more robust update soon, but for now just a teaser.

    Cheers, all!

  6. @garden gnomes in space I've had a practically-bulletproof SDA unlined 19oz. duck jacket for the last 2 years that still has tons of stiffness to it. Unless I start actually doing more robust work around the house in it, I suspect it will stay that way for another couple years at least. It's the one piece I own that reminds me how buying heavy duty repro workwear can get a little silly if you're not actually doing any heavy duty work.

  7. Omakase @ Shiro's in Belltown is one of my favorite Seattle stops. You can also hike north along the western shore of Lake Union up to the Fremont neighborhood, which has an awesome basement-level vintage mall, Blue Owl Workshop, Fremont brewery, a bunch of other shops, coffee spots, and eateries, as well as both a rocket and a crazy Lenin statue in the middle of town. The Gas Works are pretty neat and worth checking out if you're up that way, too. You can actually hike a whole loop starting from Lake Union Park, if you're really up for a full day's hike (I find the community of floating houses on the eastern shore fascinating).

Apology for the crappy phone photos but i'd like to know whether my fit in sugarcane 1947 (standard) looks gd or not. thanks ~

@tchengaa Looks good. The hip flare and room across the lap/seat will settle down a bit with more wear and as creases develop. That said, I would recommend cuffing higher so you eliminate the break; the legs will drape nicer. Check the cuffs on @julian-wolf's hawaiis just above, for one example.
