Amid a brutally hot summer in the US Mountain West (the still current heat dome pushed us to 107 F in Salt Lake today), daydreaming about a season call "autumn" led to this impulse buy. In truth, I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting when I confirmed my order. They're 1001xx 1000xx unsoaked pink line selvedge denim (which I think translates to a 1947 silhouette in ~14.5oz DSB fabric). Even the stamp on the patch sends mixed signals. They aren't especially dark, and they're noticeably neppy and scratchy - very cool and distinct from anything else I've got. They've got a bit of hip flare but not much diaper butt (compared to SC 47s). Sadly, I was able to find the remnants of the amputated red tab, but at least there were arcs to muck with. They will be fun to break in if/when the burning hydrogen orb in the sky lets up a bit..

I bought a pair of Californian Lot 54BB awhile ago from MF in 36W since thats my SC waist size.
What the heck?
That sucks. I almost bought a pair of those Lot 54BB in 36 as well. I decided the rise was too high for me and actually ended up sizing down 1 on a pair of 64s LHT instead. One thing to note is that MF measures the thigh straight across from the crotch (not an inch down like SE and many others). There's also the "how do you measure/estimate the top block?" problem. So, you end up with thigh and waist measurements that compare favorably to other jeans you own and then you still discover, as @shredwin_206 notes, that MF tend to be to run "quite snug in the arse."

They look good @Broark Really dig the black patch SE put together for those 47s.

Glad I've at least kept lurking during the pandemic, otherwise I would have missed the news about the SC price bump. I managed to snag some new 47s at the old price. I wore my 5 year old pair a lot this summer. They've held up wonderfully, but they increasingly need little repairs here and there. This is the first time I've bought the same pair twice, and it's been pretty gratifying to see old & new side-by-side.

Would anyone share thoughts on how the top block of the 66 compares to 47s? I've been planning on replacing my 5 y/o 47s with a new pair come fall, but the renewed availability of the 66s has piqued my interest. I'm most curious about the hip flare /anti-fit rear end which is fairly pronounced on my 47s (size 36). Cheers!

Got any fade update on these? Still annoyed I never grabbed a pair
No fades I'm afraid, @shredwin_206. I set them aside last fall once WFH became an extended reality (SC 47s and Momo 0901s proved more comfy in front of the home computer every day). I'll pull them back out in a few months, get them hemmed, and wear as "nice jeans" for the time being. I'm pretty sure they're still in stock, for what it's worth.

Speaking of where to buy Canes, anybody have a sense of how History Preservation is doing these days? Their inventory is very low and they don't seem to be restocking much of anything anymore, which is a shame since they were one of the few places to consistently offer un-soaked/raw Okis, Hawaiis and '47.

So, just a tad better than the Kerrygold US grocery store vintage I'm accustomed to.

Well just won a lightly worn pair of 43s for $100!
since my lovely 47s that my mother put arcs on seem to have vanished thanks to fedexKudos @shredwin_206. I had my eye on the 47s, which dramatically shot up in price during the closing moments.

^Love it! This New Beat stuff is stellar. Front 242 was about the only Belgian outfit I can remember getting ahold of in the states in the early the 90s. After a little digging on Discogs, I was amused to see that Lords of Acid put out their first single on this Kaos label.

@Dan_F You can get used brooks brothers on ebay for very reasonable prices. I was on the fence about suspenders during the TCB 20s contest and saw that used BB was the easiest, low commitment route to a decent pair. I ultimately cut the suspender buttons off my 20s for what its worth. There are also the cheap czech military surplus ones floating around. If you end up liking suspenders, then https://www.forholdingupthetrousers.com/ is probably the way to go for a premium upgrade.

The triple pleat looks really against those earth tones. Which pair of MFSC are those @dudewuttheheck? And you took this pic with your camera still in your hand!

Railcar has some pretty neat masks that are reasonably priced (for fancy masks anyway). I ordered the wabash one a couple days ago, and ordered the indigo denim one this morning. I’ll post some pics/thoughts when they arrive.
Looking forward to learning how you find the Railcar compared to the 1st PAT-RN @Dan_F. I got a Railcar wabash when they first started making them and find it rather small and not especially contoured. I've actually been looking at the 1st PAT-RN as a potential replacement.

Just out of curiosity @Radiohead89 and @louisbosco why were you visiting this thread in the first place or at all? It's clearly marked; you didn't show up unawares. I could understand this level of involvement if the topic of pandemic masks surfaced in and crowded out other conversation in the blunders and nonsense thread. I don't visit the Watches and Denim thread because--no offense guys--but I think the relationship between watches and denim is tenuous at best and I don't wear a watch. I don't go to that thread to tell the people interested in that discussion that what they're invested in is frivolous or moronic by my standards; that would be petulant. Moreover, the mere presence of a pandemic mask thread on the forum isn't instigating a debate nor were the people that started the conversation here.

Wild how every single time I neg rep you for casual sexism (this is what, the third time? Fourth?) you go through the trouble of looking through my post history and finding 4–5 (edit: we’re up to 7, this time around) completely unrelated posts to neg rep as some sort of vengeanceYou’ve really got something to prove, haven’t you
At least Ed had the decency to own up to being an ass & stand up for himself
I don't know @julian-wolf...you tend to shit up the SC thread with totally helpful insights about the lesser known specimens in your collection and you frequently offer some very natural looking fit pics with a bit of breakfast in your hand or whilst out and about at the farmers' market. I mean, that most recent, terribly genial question you asked about the new SC x SE collab...who needs this crap? And let's not even get started on @Broark Neg rep sir!

Those types of Instagram posts and users seem to reflect a much different audience and much different corresponding values (compared those in the community here). The "flat lay" thing, especially with the dude sitting in the middle of concentric circles of his belongings, tries to testify to or champion his curatorial talents at the expense of what makes the clothes interesting or admirable. To wit, it's all about him and not about the clothes.

What about a 150$ difference in price tag of jeans when both MF and Sugar Cane used to same Okinawa fabric?
Fair question. It's tricky because the products are different and there's something to be said for the creative/design efforts of MF, not to mention that MF and SC target different customers. I'm not sure about differences in cutting & sewing costs despite the collaborative manufacturing efforts. Perhaps the takeaway is that BR and SC are indeed the incredible deals we know them to be.

Just wanted to jump in and point out that the lot numbers are each cut with notably different sleeve/shoulder patterns. I just got a 401 and discovered that it's cut & sewn to fall off the shoulder quite a bit. It makes for a more relaxed, less fitted look than my buzz rickson's, which has narrower, set-in sleeve pattern . The warehouse "freedom sleeve" models look to have more of a hybrid set-in + raglan thing going on that gives a more fitted looking shoulder.
