  1. @i_denim I think you're not winning much favor from folks around here in large part because you seem to be overlooking the fact that superdenim is a huge archive of information. You don't always need to ask questions when you can very often answer them for yourself by reading the years and pages of others' insights, experiences, and opinions. Also, don't forget to just wear and actually enjoy your jeans; for the sake of an analogy--you can know all the rules of chess regardless of whether you have a board or pieces, but you're never going to learn how to play the game until you actually start playing the game.

I'd like them better if it was an actual design rather than just horizontal lines. They way it looks now reminds me of cheap mall brand jeans.

I get it. But now that I've got my contest 20s again, I'm more pleased with the cat ears than I thought I would have been. The horizontal line pattern fits with the very symmetrical square pockets and echoes other repro workwear pockets (especially chore coats, overalls, and the like). Here's mine (sorry, not the best pic) with my SDA chore coat:

Besides, if anything screams cheap mall-brand pockets to me, it's this:

oof, thought there was gonna be some special pocket bags for the re-run...

Agreed; this is a bit disappointing. In the absence of any other exclusive traits to distinguish from stock 20s, those cat ears suddenly became quite pricey. Probably just a casualty of the chaos.

^Well, @Maynard Friedman, we're going to find out. I've placed an order, and we'll see if they get here before the tcb 20s contest reboots. Thanks.

So, no 0901s for me just yet....I got a little bit of the run-around from Okayama Denim, unfortunately.

After a week of not getting a shipment notification, I emailed them only to learn that they've totally out of stock on raw & one wash in my size and that the 0901s are out of production until the end of April. Though I had a very helpful, accommodating, and efficient email exchange with them, I do wish they would have initiated it. They've since fixed the availability on their website after I pointed out that it still showed the jeans as in stock and available for purchase even while we were swapping emails. Thankfully, I'm not in a huge hurry, they're the only pair I really want to add to the collection right now, and other vendors don't seem to have them in stock either. So, I opted to stick with my order and wait until the restock.

  5. I don't think @spunkey was involved with the auction. The pair listed by somebody going by leviskent501 on yahoo auctions japan was a size 30, the arcs were unpicked, and the patch was unnumbered. Here's the listing for the expired auction. @spunkey had mentioned that he unpicked his arcs in a prior post in the thread, and according the contestant list, had a size 32. It's also interesting to note that the auctioned pair may not have been sold; there were no bids on that listing.

Even so, it would be nice if @spunkey would respond. I'm inclined to just go back and down vote every post he's ever made on sufu just to get his attention, but then again that's just not very nice.

  6. ^the momotaro site tagged them as 1005sp. I initially thought that meant it was nothing more than a one-wash version of the same 15.7oz denim, but you seem to be right: retailers are listing it as one-washed sanforized denim (which seems strangely redundant somehow).

  7. Crosspost w/ This or That?

Anybody have thoughts on how the 15.7 fabric on the momo vintage label would turn out with a frequent/regular washing routine?

I'm pretty much a TCB & SC guy, and prefer more vintage-style fades and the gentler color gradations, puckering, and train tracks that comes with it. Momos seem to have lost some their following around as folks have turned their attention away from high contrast fade and toward the Fullcount/Warehouse/TCB repro scene, but I'm thinking of bucking the trend a little by grabbing a pair of 0901s and washing them every 3-5 weeks. I can't seem to find any pics of pairs in that fabric that have been treated that way. The pair below has more contrast than I'd want, especially @ the whiskers, but the thighs and the seat hint at the possibilities of still getting some nice, subtler fading.

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

  9. So, I'm sure we're all curious about this, but being understandably coy about it given how crazy this whole situation is: do we have a clear sense of what Inoue intends to do with the arcs for the new pairs? If he goes "cat ears," would we be looking at lemon/orange contrast stitching or something more "stealth" like what showed up on some pairs of 60s recently?

Wow, I never realized the cat ear thing because the thread color makes it really blend in. Here's the best picture I could find on my phone, until someone else can get a better higher res shot.

@MileHighEvertonian @Iron Horse Just curious, is Buzz really American sizing?  I can understand if it is.

Maybe, maybe not, but it's been a long time since I've bought shirts I haven't had prior experience with on the basis of a L/XL tag. For example, I'm an XL in the buzz chambrays and probably an XL in most of their other shirts, but I'm an L in Gitman, and an L in JCrew and an XL in 3sixteen.

  11. ^That's too bad. I wonder if Flat Head shirts might work better for your body type, though it would depend on how much taper you can handle from the shoulders through the midsection. Granted, they're a hell of a lot more expensive.

  12. I agree, the sleeves look pretty baggy (and maybe too long). Given that HPA sells this exact shirt, is in the U.S., and has great customer service, why don't you just buy your Buzz stuff from them and save yourself the worry of things not fitting and being easily exchanged? Just curious.

  13. @Bbressler I'm not so sure that they're mistagged, to be honest. The one-wash start a shade or two below tagged size and then stretch an inch or two past tagged size. After a hot wash and dry, I can easily make it look like my size 36 measures somewhere near 17" across depending on how casually I measure them (I'm not critiquing your measuring ability, just saying that measuring horizontally across the waist and multiplying by 2 isn't all that precise).

Keep in mind, too, that there's some adjustment to the cut involved. The small waist relative to the wider hips and seat exacerbates the feeling that don't fit quite right at first, especially if you're like me and you've got something of a beer gut or love handles. If that's the case, then your waist may actually be wider than your hips, which means that until they stretch out the narrowest part of these jeans will hit you where you're widest. As others have noted elsewhere in the thread, these are features of the 47s that are more exaggerated in the bigger sizes, and this makes getting the right fit trickier in the absence of sizes 35, 37 & 39.

They will stretch, but if you're used to feeling initial stretch across your hips/lower abdomen, then this is going to seem quite different. If you're really miserable in the 36s, then I'd wear the 38s and just wash the crap out of them every week or two. This denim looks great with a heavy washing regimen.

    Good luck.
